Women Who Do: Reflections and Inspirations from This Year

December 13, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Vanity Fair Lingerie. I received product samples to facilitate my review and compensation to thank me for my participation.

As I think back on 2015 and personal opportunities that taught me the most, my ambassadorship with Vanity Fair comes first to mind. This partnership was really focused on Women Who Do. During my visit to NYC this summer we talked a lot about all the things that women do each day, whether it is in an office setting, behind the wheel of a minivan, or even both. Whatever our roles, we are working hard to better ourselves, and especially to better our families. And we need support in order to turn our dreams into a reality, because that saying that “it takes a village” is so very, very true. It’s intended meaning is about raising kids, but it’s also true when it comes to navigating this awesome but stressful world. We need each other.

vanity fair summit 7 Vanity Fair is a brand that gets it and that wants to be a meaningful part of the village for all women. One of the ways they do that is by working very hard to create bras that provide the right foundation for busy women. When you have the right fit and the right level of support, you feel comfortable and confident and are better poised for what the day might throw at you. I learned this year that one of the best gifts you can give to yourself this year is to get a proper bra fitting. Once you have the right size, go for a bra that offers the support you need. My personal favorites from the year are the Body Caress and the Flattering Lift. Try on a variety of options to find the style or styles that suit you best.  Now that I have experienced the Vanity Fair difference, this is my go-to brand for bras that can keep up with my daily life.

vanity fair bra

Yes, Vanity Fair makes bras and underwear that are of exceptional quality with cutting edge fabrics and on-trend colors. But I also choose Vanity Fair because this company has lifting women up in mind in more ways than one. I have been so impressed with Vanity Fair’s commitment to Dress for Success. This year they donated 50,000 bras to the nonprofit so that every woman going through the program could have the right foundation underneath her job interview suit and to go hand-in-hand with the training she receives at Dress for Success to help her be worthy of a promotion down the line. Helping women achieve economic independence is a gift to us all, because these women are not just bettering themselves; they are bettering the options for their families, too.

vanity fair summit 1 So when I get ready every morning and I select my Vanity Fair bra, I not only feel great about my own foundation, but I feel great knowing that I got to play a tangible role in bettering the foundation for another woman. My own personal purchases with Vanity Fair this year resulted in 2 bras being donated to Dress for Success through the BOGOGO promotion this fall. I’m thrilled that making a positive change in my wardrobe positively impacted  2 women in the Dress for Success program. I will never forget the commitment that Vanity Fair made to those women this year. That’s exactly the type of company I want to continue to support.

I feel honored to have been a voice for Women Who Do this year, and to introduce my readers to Vanity Fair and to the wonderful work they are doing to support us all, be it through stellar undergarments or through supporting women who are seeking new employment opportunities. Thank you, Vanity Fair, for being part of the village for all of us!

A Natural Lift for Your Post-Baby Body Thanks to Vanity Fair

November 22, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Vanity FairLingerie. I received product samples to facilitate my review and compensation to thank me for my participation. #WomenWhoDo

If applicable, do you remember your body before you had kids? If you were like most women you had a list of things that you’d like to improve about your body back then. I know I did!

And now let me ask you: what would you give to have that pre-baby body back? Oh my gosh, I didn’t know how good I had it! 😉 And one of the ways my body has changed the most is when it somes to the natural “lift” of my breasts. Oh what a toll those little ones take on that part of your body!

vanity fair flattering lift 1

So when I received the brand new Flattering Lift bra from Vanity Fair lingerie in the mail a few weeks back, I was pretty darn excited. A little lift certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing for me in this season of life. But before I tried on the bra, I worried that the “lift” would be extra padding. As a woman with a larger chest, I shy away from anything that adds more to my chest size. Fortunately, that’s not how this particular bra is designed, at all.

vanity fair flattering lift 2

The Flattering Lift bra is designed with your comfort in mind. I noticed the secure stitching in the back (and also along the edges of the underwire to keep that “poke” at bay).  It also has a very natural-feeling “bump pad” and this adds gentle lift and a slight boost. It’s nothing that looks in any way unnatural, silly or like you are trying to show off your assets too strongly. 😉 I can tell you from experience that the bra feels great and it looks great, too!

The Flattering Lift Collection just launched this fall and it’s definitely one I would recommend to my fellow mamas out there. We may not be able to get our post-baby bodies back but Vanity Fair has us covered!

I’ve been sharing this year about how Vanity Fair has played a significant role, in partnership with Dress for Success, at providing a foundation for women to look and feel their best when setting out into the workforce. Vanity Fair can provide the same thing for you. I’ve been wearing their bras almost exclusively for the past 4 months and I’ve been so pleased with how great they look, and how great I feel when I’m wearing them.

vanity fair guarantee

And should you not be pleased with a purchase, know that Vanity Fair stands behind their products and would be happy to provide a refund within 30 days of purchase. I found their great guarantee on the back of my bra hanger. You’ve got nothing to lose and a bit of a lift to gain! Go for it, sister!

Setting the Right Foundation: Why Dress for Success Rocks

October 31, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Vanity FairLingerie. I received product samples to facilitate my review and compensation to thank me for my participation. #WomenWhoDo

Today I want to ask you to sit and think for just a minute or two about your work (meaning what you do to provide for your family). Your work might be to manage the household and raise your amazing children, or it might be to work in a corporate setting with long office hours, or it might be part-time or seasonal employment. Or you might even ben one of the millions of women currently seeking an opportunity.

Laptop and cup of coffee with flower on desk, Vinatge style

For me, my work is a messy but beautiful tangle of online influencing and offline parenting and household management. I LOVE my work, and I am SO grateful for all of the mentors and role models I have had from my very first job as a cashier at Captain D’s all the way through my time in student affairs in a college setting. I can think of people every step along the way who helped prepare me for the enormous amount of time management, creativity and quick thinking it takes to be my own boss. I put those lessons I have learned through them to work every single day.

Setting the Foundation for Women

Dress for Success® is a nonprofit that seeks to help women attain economic independence by providing a network of support and career development tools to help women find those same type of role models and mentors that I remember having so that they can thrive in work and in their life. Dress for Success is popularly known as the nonprofit that donates interview attire to women before they go to an interview, but they offer so much more than clothing! They offer a foundation for these women!

rack of clothes

I recently learned that 70% of the women that Dress for Success serves are mothers, raising between 2-3 children, on average. These women share a lot in common with me (and probably with you, too!). But they are lacking in economic security, which is such a critical piece to attain for peace of mind from day-to-day and month-to-month. Dress for Success not only helps women feel confident during the interview, but they also have an employment retention program to help ensure that the women attain the skills they need in order to keep their jobs. Additionally they work with women to ensure that they will be eligible for promotions down the line so that they can reach their professional goals and attain the personal fulfillment they are seeking, as well.

Each and every woman has gifts and talents that are uniquely her own and that she can offer in a work setting that will allow her to shine AND that will give the company an excellent return on their investment in her. Dress for Success knows this, and is doing a tremendous job helping these women shine bright in the interview and beyond so that independence ceases to be a dream and instead becomes reality.

BOGOGO

I’m so thrilled that Vanity Fair has also taken note of the important work Dress for Success is doing, and that they have committed to providing a piece of the foundation for women in the program, by way of donating a high quality, comfortable Vanity Fair bras to program participants.

Last month, when the promotion was just starting, I purchased two bras, received two bras for free (!) and also learned that two bras were being donated to the Dress for Success program, which means that two women out there are getting that same great foundational support from Vanity Fair that I love putting on at the start of my work days.

And there is still time for you to participate, too! Now through November 8th, you can make a B1G1G1 purchase on the Vanity Fair website. Simply add two bras to your cart and then enter to code VFB1G1G1 at checkout and you’ll get one of those bras for free and also earmark a bra for donation on your behalf!

You know how much your work means to you, so please consider supporting Dress for Success so that more women can experience that great combination of economic independence and personal fulfillment by offering their skills (and growing their skills!) in the work place.

October 11, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Vanity FairLingerie. I received product samples to facilitate my review and compensation to thank me for my participation.

Earlier this week I did a major bra purging, letting go of all my ill-fitting and just plain worn out undergarments. I spoiled myself with 4 brand new bras that I bought during the Vanity Fair BOGOGO promotion. I paid for 2 bras, got 2 bras FOR FREE and also got the satisfaction of knowing that 2 bras would be donated to Dress for Success thanks to my purchase. Talk about a win/win/win! Also? That lace! Swoon!

Bras Change Lives: Introducing Vanity Fair’s Buy One Get One Give One Promotion

September 24, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · 1 Comment

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Vanity Fair Lingerie (#BrasChangeLives). I received product samples to facilitate my review and compensation to thank me for my participation.

Friends, I just bought 6 Vanity Fair bras online this morning, but I only had to pay for 2 of them. This isn’t some sort of ambassador special, I promise! It’s a deal ANYONE can take advantage of, so let me break it down for you so you can go get some AMAZING bras for the fall!

BOGOGO

Kohl’s is the lucky store that gets to start all the fun. That’s where I went shopping just a few minutes ago (and for you mega-deal seekers out there, they are offering extra 15% off coupons or extra 20% off if you use your Kohl’s charge!). But you aren’t limited to just Kohl’s for your shopping. Here’s a full list of the stores running this fantastic promotion and the dates when they will be running.

  • Kohl’s: Sept. 24 – Oct. 3, 2015
  • JCPenney: Oct. 7 – Oct. 12, 2015
  • Sears: Oct. 11 – Oct. 17, 2015
  • Macy’s: Oct. 14 – Oct. 18, 2015
  • Bealls: Oct. 18 – Oct. 24, 2015
  • Boscov’s: Oct. 25 – Oct. 31, 2015
  • Belk: Nov. 1 – Nov. 8, 2015

If you are new to Vanity Fair bras, I definitely recommend that you head into a store that carries them so that you can get fitted, if possible (more details on finding the right fit here) and so that you can try on different styles, as you may be a Beauty Back girl, or Body Caress may be more your style. Or you may fall instantly in love with that amazing Cooling Touch technology! 🙂 This way you’ll get exactly what you want from the bra you buy and the bra you get for free! And there’s no shame in picking out two of the same bra. When you find a style that feels great to you (like Body Caress for me), stick with it! Many different stores are going to have fitting experts on hand during certain days, so be sure to check here for the fitting event happening nearest you!

So let’s review: buy one Vanity Fair Bra for yourself, and then “buy” a second one for $0! A third bra will be donated to a woman working hard to better her circumstances in life by being brave and heading out for a job interview. Your purchase will help her feel even more confident, as she’ll be wearing a comfortable, supportive foundation underneath that great interview attire she will be able to get from Dress for Success. This is such an incredible win/win/win!

I firmly believe in the power of women coming together to lift one another up. I think this campaign with Dress for Success is SO powerful because it strives to do exactly that: to lift, to encourage, to support and to equip women for success. Every human on the planet has needed help from others at some point, be it through an official nonprofit like Dress for Success or through less formal channels, such as getting some extra support from a friend. I love that through the BOGOGO event, you can be that friend to another woman and provide that little nudge that could make all the difference. Won’t you join me in making a purchase that’s great for you AND that’s great for another woman who could use the help? Vanity Fair hopes to donate up to 50,000 bras, which will be enough to provide a bra to every woman who walks through the Dress for Success doors this year.

My Favorite All Day Bra: The Body Caress from Vanity Fair

August 31, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · 4 Comments

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Vanity Fair. I received product samples to facilitate my review and compensation to thank me for my participation. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Can you relate to that amazing feeling you get when you find a GREAT bra? Most people have had that experience at least once, and it is bliss.

It’s also usually frustrating because you might have only bought one of that particular bra, and so you find yourself constantly searching for it in the clean laundry pile (or being bummed out when you find it in the dirty laundry pile).

Friends I’ve been doing a lot of digging through my laundry in the past month because I am totally in love with the Body Caress bra from Vanity Fair.

I tried on this bra for the first time at Macy’s Herald Square in NYC (missed the news about that visit? Check it out here!). It was definitely love at first wear, so I bought the bra in the underwire version as well as the wirefree version. My wirefree Body Caress is in this totally striking color that is new for fall called Orleans Blue. Here’s a peek at that beautiful shade!

vanity fair body caress 1

As a woman with a larger chest size, I’m tickled to have a wirefree bra! For me, though, this bra is one that I will wear on a work day at home (I work from home, remember?) but for heading out of the house, I feel a bit more confident and comfortable with the support offered by the Body Caress with underwire. I highly encourage you to try out both styles to see which one might work best for you!

So here’s the bra that I will be buying 2 (ok, 4) more of later this fall:

vanity fair body caress 2

This particular bra (retailing for $40 but currently on sale for $30) can come with or without the lace detailing, but I thought it was absolutely gorgeous, and I can tell you from experience that it does not show through your shirts, so no worries about that! It just adds such an elegant, feminine touch that I really love!

vanity fair body caress 3

The Body Caress is designed to be what I would call a “workhorse” bra: meant for every day, and for many different occasions, as the straps have the capability to convert to a criss cross design or a halter. I love that I can still reach for my favorite bra even when my attire might require something a bit more specialized from my undergarments! 🙂

vanity fair body caress 4

I’m 35 now, and I’ve had 2 kids. The bras I was wearing in college would never cut it for me in this season of life. I need a bra that can truly offer good support all day (because just like the saying goes…the years are short but the days are long!), and I also need it to be comfortable so that I don’t give up and just take it off at 3:30 in the afternoon (been there, done that about 1,000 times!). This is my all day bra. I’m comfortable and it looks great on me.

When I met with the representatives of Vanity Fair last month in New York, one of the things that really stood out to me is that this brand is listening to the women who wear their products. Every single detail on every single bra they offer is there with intention: from the cut to the colors to the special features, Vanity Fair products are designed to help women feel beautiful and also get on with their day without having to think about their undergarments after putting them on in the morning. THANK YOU, Vanity Fair!

I can’t wait to do more shopping for some great new colors that Vanity Fair is launching this fall (they take their inspirations straight from the runways so that your bras and underwear are on point in terms of their beautiful shades!). If you are new to this brand, they have an extensive assortment of sizing, ranging from 34-44 and cup sizes B-DDD. Find the best Vanity Fair bra for your needs at Macy’s, Kohl’s, JCPENNY and Sears.

Vanity Fair: the Perfect Partner for Women Who Do

August 5, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · 6 Comments

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Vanity Fair. Product samples and compensation have been provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own, as always.

I spent part of last week in New York City getting to know more about Vanity Fair. As a company that has been providing everyday elegance to women through their beautiful lines of undergarments since 1919, you are likely familiar with this brand.

vanity fair summit 7

But during this visit, I was able to really dig in and learn more about the WHY behind Vanity Fair. One of things that immediately struck me about this company is the high value they place on acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of women. Every blogger at this meeting was surprised to find framed quotes decorating our meeting space, and every quote was such an affirmation to read. It was a treasure to see our words of encouragement highlighted in such a way, and it spoke volumes to me about what this brand views as important.

vanity fair summit 6 We also spent quite a bit of time learning about the different bras and underwear in the Vanity Fair line. The degree of intentionality that went into each and every design was SO impressive, friends. Vanity Fair has spoken to (and more importantly, listened to) countless women in order to better understand what a woman needs to feel more confident and comfortable throughout her day. I saw some incredible innovations last week (strap adjusters in the front and a cutting edge material that breathes and even keeps you cool, just to name a few!).

vanity fair summit 4

Vanity Fair seems to have precious little interest in developing “ok” products. They want each and every item that they make to be the item that you reach for as soon as it’s clean (you know what I’m talking about, ladies…the bra you wear out the fastest because it’s the one you want to wear all the time!). After hearing about all the thoughtful design elements of each of their lines, I was eager to get to try them on for myself!

vanity fair summit 5 We headed to the world-famous Macy’s on Herald Square to receive an expert bra fitting. Did you know that 80% of women are currently wearing the wrong size bra? If you have never been fitted for a bra you will definitely want to pay attention to when your nearest Macy’s, Kohl’s or JCPenny will be offering a bra fitting service so that you can find out what size you should currently be wearing. And even if you have been fitted in the past, you likely realize that our sizes tend to change, ESPECIALLY after having children! It’s good to get yourself re-fitted every few years or more frequently when going through pregnancy and post-partum life. 🙂

vanity fair summit 2

During my bra fitting, I learned a few really important things I wanted to share with you.

1. Give yourself a bra fit test If you aren’t at a place where you can be fitted by a professional. Put two fingers in between your strap and your shoulder (fingers should be laying flat and not stacked on top of each other). If you can’t, your bra is likely too tight. Give this same test to your band. Additionally, the center front of the bra should be flush to the chest. And you should be able to wear the bra on the middle hook. This self-test isn’t as accurate as a professional fitting, but it’s a good alternative option when you need one!

2. A quality bra company should be consistent in their sizing. So once you are properly fitted, that will be your best fit in each of the styles for that company. With that said, you will likely prefer certain styles over others, because the cup shapes and the band styles are going to have some variation. Try on multiple styles, rather than just one style, in order to find your best look.

3. Put your clothes back on! In order to get the best idea of how the bra is going to look on you day-to-day, you should put your clothes back on in the dressing room to see how the bra looks under your clothes. Keep that in mind before you head to the store to try on new bras so that you are wearing the type of clothes that the bra you are shopping for would be worn under.

4. The lift test. Finally, you should move around a bit in the dressing room, and lift your arms out to the side, and straight ahead of you. You want the full and complete picture of how this bra performs, especially since you’ll be doing much more than standing with your arms straight down while wearing it.

My bra fitting experience was really enlightening for me, and I’m so thrilled with the bra I chose (I have a whole post coming to you about it, but spoiler alert, I’m in love with the Body Caress, both wired and wire-free!).

vanity fair summit 1 I loved getting a feel for what Vanity Fair holds important, and perhaps the best way that this was demonstrated to us was in discussing their partnership with Dress for Success and the Buy One, Get One, Give One campaign. I am SO excited to tell you more in the coming months about the commitment Vanity Fair has made to this very worthy organization that helps lift women up by outfitting them for job interviews. The goal is to be able to donate 50,000 new bras, and in so doing, to potentially provide every single Dress for Success client with a new bra as part of her interview attire. We briefly heard from some of the women who run this national nonprofit, and in just a matter of moments, an entire room full of women found themselves on the verge of tears as we heard a message of hardship and message of hope. Good things are happening at Dress for Success, friends!

Vanity Fair tickled me with their uplifiting messages, impressed me with their design concepts, and most importantly of all, thrilled me with their desire to run a campaign that would uplift women who are out there trying so very hard to provide for themselves and their families. They are the women who do, and Vanity Fair is passionately dedicated to those women, be they Dress for Success clients, business executives, or even you or me!
