We are currently in the process of moving from one house in our beloved neighborhood to another. We are excited to be getting about 150 more square feet of living space, and an additional bedroom for our second daughter (who will be here in just a few weeks!). The house, overall, is just great.
Except for the kitchen. We are remodeling it so that we can make the most of the space. The TEENY TINY SPACE. Oh heavens it is a small kitchen! This wouldn’t be so bad if we didn’t cook so much. Tim comes home for lunch every day, and we rarely eat out, so we seriously use it 3 meals a day, 7 days a week.
As we have been working on the remodeling plan, it has been of the essence that every single square foot of this room be used very well. We are working hard to maximize the space. Some elements of this include good design. Other elements include good organizational products.
Which is why we have turned to Rubbermaid to help us keep our recycling area functioning well in this new space. In our old kitchen we had the floor space to simply put a bin our for recycling to go in. It wasn’t pretty (in fact, I really hated how it made the room look so, well, TRASHY). But it worked. In this new kitchen, there is absolutely no room for that; we needed a different plan, and we weren’t interested in simply ceasing to recycle. No way! The blessing in disguise of our situation is that I realized our recycling was going to have to be hidden, somehow. It would be tricky to figure out, but it sure would look a lot better!
Rubbermaid has just introduced a new product called the Hidden Recycler, and it is absolutely perfect to meet our needs.
This will easily be tucked away under one of our cabinets, and is the size of 5 gallons. It is large enough to hold 1 gallon jugs! When it gets full, just pick it up by its convenient handle and take it out to your outdoor recycling bin. Easy! The bag itself has a leak-proof liner and is washable. The bag is also made of soft material, so if it needs to squish up a bit against other items in your cabinet, that’s no problem.
I think this is a spectacular product, especially for those of us with limited space in the kitchen, or who simply want our recycling to be kept out of sight! It retails for just $15.99. You can purchase it at Rubbermaid.com or at Meijer stores across the nation.
Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader is going to win a Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler!

I have the smallest kitchen/place ever so I keep it in paper bags. Not pretty but I have a small nook where I can keep it out of my way until I take it all out.
Our curbside pickup stuff is under the kitchen sink in a plastic pail, and a paper grocery bag for the paper. Deposit bottles unfortunately accumulate in a spot in the corner, sort of under a table. Egg cartons wait by the door to be taken to the car, then back to the co-op. And then there’s all the odds and ends that get saved everywhere else in the apartment to recycle or “upcycle” into art, crafts, new clothes, etc. Anything to help keep it more organized would be great.
We use plastic shopping bags to store our recycling in until its time to take it to the recycling plant.
We keep the filled bags outside in our shed.
We have a reusable grocery bag that we empty when it fills.
We keep out recycling on a section of our counter! not the best method!

no plan…. just pile them on the freezer until we go down stairs

Honestly, we throw it by the front door (it’s in disarray–nothing actually stores those recylables), and when it’s time to go out, we walk to our recycling bin. I guess that’s what happens when you live in an apartment dwelling 🙂
We have recycling bins for all plastic and one for cans.
Everything just sits on the counter until we run it outside to the bins. It really looks awful.
Currently in totes
in a bag in the pantry closet 🙁

Pile it on the counter till someone takes it out (usually me).
Our recycling in the area does not take paper products, so we stash those in the garage until we get a full load to drive the the center. We save all our pop cans to turn in for a bit of cash to go towards a scholarship we set up in my little brother’s name after he passed away. The rest we walk outside and dump in the recycling bin! Would love this hidden bin!

we have a small blue bin in our laundry room, and then it eventually makes it to the garage in the large recycle bin. Right now it is on top of a cabinet and it is always overflowing. As a professional organizer, I’m always trying to come up with customized ways to help residential clients streamline their efforts. Having a convenient recycling solution in the kitchen prevents procrastination and makes it more likely people will stick with the process — after all, people with small children or items cooking on the stove or too many things going on at once just aren’t going to run one bottle or can to the garage recycling bin. (And, people like me, who live in apartments and have no garages, need to collect recycling neatly — an almost impossible feat –until it’s time to drive to the recycling center.) Rubbermaid’s solution prevents them from either giving up, or building up piles of sticky clutter. I see the Hidden Recycler replacing my own under-sink cardboard box filled with smaller plastic bags.
Well, honestly we don’t recycle b/c we don’t have the space for anyother containers in the kitchen. This could change that though. Pretty cool product.
A bin out in the garage.
Currently my recycling goes in the big green garbage bin that goes out on trash day.
We put newspapers in bags and cans and bottles in a large container to recycle.
I toss it into a big blue bin that is sitting in my laundry room
i just dump them in the city recycling bin – not that pretty
We use plastic bags and store them in the shed until full.
Our city uses roll out carts, so we keep our recyclables in a bin in our kitchen closet and when it’s full we dump it in the cart. The bin isn’t as nice and practical as this Rubbermaid one!

We have our recycling in a pretty small bin that has to be taken out every day!
We have a recycling bin sitting beside our normal trash bin which is fine until my daughter forgets which is which, or until friends come over and think we just have two trash cans to fill up! Nothing like rewashing all those recyclable things when someone dumps trash on them.
We store our recycling under the sink in a plastic bag.
