We don’t have television in our home. Now, before you think I’m trying to sound all high and mighty about this, I will disclose that we have Netflix instant service AND I watch my share of programs online. But I still miss out on a lot of television programming and am pretty behind the times when it comes to the latest kid tv shows.
Sid the Science Kid is one example of an entire program that I had never heard of until I got a new DVD in the mail. It’s called Sid’s Backyard Camp Out, and it is really cute! It stars Sid, of course, and if you are also unfamiliar with him, he’s a very curious little boy who likes to get to the bottom of why things are the way they are. This leads to lots of science talk, which I think is pretty cool!
In this DVD, Sid, Gerald and Dad are making plans for a big backyard camp out. It’s rather humorous seeing Gerald prepare for the event. He pretty much packs everything but the kitchen sink. But through their adventures, they learn about just how little you really need to have a great time, and how few things are true necessities. There are definitely some great lessons in there!
Sid’s Backyard Campout runs for 45 minutes and also includes 12 Teacher Susie songs. It retails for just $6.99, making it a very affordable summer treat!
Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader will win a copy of Sid’s Backyard Campout!

We like camping but haven’t with the kids yet
I do like to go camping.
We do a lot of camping as a family. I always make sure to bring games and card games so that at night by the campfire we can all have fun together.
I like to go camping, mostly go in an RV is my in-laws. We have not taken our daughter yet but probably will soon this fall!
We don’t go camping so I have no tips.
I have never been camping
I camp every weekend we have a camper in a campground by the lake, Umm my only tip is for people in tents with kids is to have a flashlight handy (nothing like a screaming baby and you cant see to find what you need) also some tents still get water in them when it rains so make sure your kids are elevated off the floor.
like camping but have not taken my children yet

I love to go camping! I’ve taken my oldest 2 kids camping a lot, and my youngest son a couple of times.
Never been camping, it’s not really my kind of thing!
never been camping but would like to try
We love to go camping and the kids always would come along. We would pack everything the night before, and then in the morning before heading out, we would double check everything to make sure that we didn’t miss anything the kids would need. We also would make a checklist.
We do toss the tent up in the backyard. I used to go camping with my aunt and uncle, and my grandparents when I was a kid, and I loved it…but I haven’t taken my kiddos out. And we have the gear (a gift from my in-laws), so there’s no excuse…
i used to camp as a kid but i havent taken the kidlet yet
I have never been camping but i would love to someday
I love to camp. I always took my kids camping when they were young but I cheated- we slept in our full-size van.
They like to camp in the backyard
I’ve never taken them camping, but I’d love to try it in the backyard sometime!
I have never like camping but my kids has kids of their own and they go camping.
I love to go camping. Haven’t gone camping with my own child yet (she’s too young) but I have gone with younger family members. I would say to be successful (and less stressful) camping you need to plan for lots of age appropriate activities.
I love going camping! I enjoy being outdoors : ) We usually go camping with family and/or friends so the kids have a blast with everyone.
I do not like to go camping!
I kind of like to camp. I have taken my kids and we had fun. I think S’mores fixins’ are a must bring! Thank you for the chance to win! 🙂
I love camping, its a nice get away from the city and a great way to spend quality time with the kids!
I love camping. There’s nothing that compares to waking up in the morning at a campground and smelling breakfast cooking all around you. Make sure the little ones know the rules right from the start so as to avoid any accidents or lost children. We also involved them in the cooking-making Tonka pies and smores.
My family and I love camping. We try to go twice a year and we take all 5 kids. My tip, make sure everything is packed in the car the night before, get to the campsite early, (so you can take your time setting everything up), if you oldre children, get them to help take care of the younger children. I have lots move tips, many years of camping with children.
I was a girl scout and my parents were boy scout leaders so we used to camp A LOT! I love it! We didn’t do the whole tent camping, near a restroom thing either. You would make your own shelter and dig a hole. 😀 I haven’t taken the kids yet, but we probably will next year when they are a bit older.
Thanks!
Love camping, but once we went camping and left our chips on the table outside and racoons were everywhere!!!
we love to go camping.. we even camp out in the yard
I love camping. Making foil packs allows to have healthy camping themed easy dinners on camping trips.
I’m not really outdoorsy and haven’t been camping for real since I was a kid. So, I haven’t taken my kids camping, but, my 8 year old is obsessed with the idea of camping. My kids would be happy with almost anything, so I don’t have any tips for you. Wondering if you have tips for adults who are a little reluctant! 😉 Oh, and, my kids love Sid the Science kid. They would flip if they got this.

I don’t really like camping.
I used to love camping as a kid, but nowadays I crave the hotel/motorhome experience, lol.
We go camping almost every weekend in the Summer. There is a really nice campground on a lake right down the road
We love camping! Especially smores and hot dogs 🙂
Havent taken the kids camping yet. they are just 2 and 1 we are nervous to take them along
I haven’t yet.
I haven’t gone camping in at least 17 years! I loved it though.
My 3 sons love camping. We do alot of it.
We don’t camp. My sister and her family do though, and they invite us to their campsite during the day. We have fun, then go home and sleep in our own beds at night. Much better than real camping!!!
i have never gone camping
I love to camp. Yes we take the kids and they love it. Kiddo Camping Tip: Don’t be afraid to let them play and get dirty, they have so much fun.
Our kids go camping and love it. The oldest was 3 months old the first time we took her. Lots of clothes, and creative places to sleep when they are really little.
Have taken my grown kids all their lives.. Take lots of wet wipes, a baby tub for baths, then rain boots for after the bath so they stay clean til bed!
Not a huge fan of camping
I used to when I was a kid and I liked it, we havent gone yet.
I only like to camp out with air conditioned cabins! I can’t stand the heat and we have rented and “camped out” with our kids! LOL!
We have camped in the backyard. I really didnt like it.
I love going camping. We haven’t taken our kids camping yet. I would love to read peoples tips on taking the little ones camping.
I love not camping….but that doesn’t mean my kiddos aren’t for it!
I used to go camping all the time as a kid. My son has not been camping yet.. I’d like to take him.
We have taken our older children camping and they loved it. We plan to take the younger ones when they are a little older.
I love to go camping and yes I have taken children camping.
no i dont like to camp but the grandsons love to go
We tent camped this year when we were in Cub Scouts, but we would prefer our camper. THank you
I’ve only gone camping a few times, and my kids have never gone!
I enjoy camping but I have never gone camping with my kids. It is on my summer bucket list to do a backyard camp out with my kids.
Camping is my favorite thing to do in the warm weather. We are taking the 3 year old grand-baby today for the first time 😀
We like to go camping especially by a body of water to swim in!
I haven’t been camping with my kiddos. Unless a fort in the living room counts 🙂
yep like camping, haven’t gone in a long time though
We have a hard time with camping. My 10 year old has severe asthma that is triggered by wood smoke and even if we don’t have a fire – someone always does. As a child I really enjoyed camping and miss it sometimes.
Personally…..I don’t like camping, but my 4-yr-old loves it! (Mommy prefers an actual bed and a hot shower)….No real tips, kiddos just love being out in nature, just bring extra clothes, because they get really dirty.
I do like to camp, but haven’t done it with the kiddos yet. Not that brave!
