Cozy, Soft Bedding for Chilly Nights

January 22, 2016 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

This post brought to you by Dollar General. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Stuff Parents Need.

Most of the country is in the midst of some serious winter weather right now. A friend of mine in Florida even told me that this week her daughter saw frost for the first time ever! Ha!!!

I’m not getting out of the house all that much so that I can stay warm inside, but that has led to a bit of cabin fever. Can you relate?

When I was looking through my latest Dollar General weekly email (do you get them?) I noticed a really unusual coupon offer: $2 off a set of sheets. Well, that was enough to get me to put on my coat and head over to Dollar General to check out their sheet sets. I had my 6-year-old in mind as I went, because this is the current state of her bedding:

Yes, it’s a hot mess! But for as hot as that mess was, she recently told me that she’s been getting cold at night. Oh no, that won’t do! So after I found super cute sheets for just $10.50 (they are $12.50 minus the $2 coupon…score!), I decided to check out their blankets. I hit the cozy, soft bedding jackpot, friends! Darah was SO thrilled to discover her new bedding after school.

Yes, friends, that happens to be the world’s coziest blanket. I was sold the moment I touched it, and once I realized that I was creating a whole new bedding look for my daughter for $30, I was feeling pretty darn smug. It was totally worth braving the cold to get something so fabulous, and at such a great price, no less.

Shopping Like a Boss at Dollar General (and Carrying It All in One Load!)

December 1, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

This post brought to you by Purina. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Stuff Parents Need.

Friends, if you have not been shopping at Dollar General lately, then you need to make the trip! I scored TONS of awesome stuff there over the weekend in their clearance section that was an additional 75% off. Oh you read that right, AN ADDITIONAL 75% off. Score!!!! They also had toys buy one get one 75% off. So I did some serious shopping!

photo tidycatslightweight1_zps5f809038.jpg I got loaded up on great gifts and cute wrapping paper, too! Oh, and see that product in my other hand? That’s right, amigos, I’m toting Tidy Cats Lightweight Litter like it’s no big deal. Because at 8.5 pounds, it simply isn’t! No need to make a special trip out to the car just to haul in the cat litter.

Tidy Cats Lightweight litter is actually the same amount of product that you’ll find in the 20lb version of the leading scooping litter, but it weighs less than half as much! You can find this awesome new Purina product at Dollar General right now (it’s currently on sale for just $11.50!). I found mine on the very top shelf, so if you are a shorty like me, don’t forget to look up high. And don’t be scared to pull it down; you’ve got this! photo tidycatslightweight2_zps97c744ae.jpg

I love that this new version of cat litter hasn’t sacrificed any of the elements you know and love in the Tidy Cats brand, such as being 99.9% dust-free, providing continuous odor control, and clumping power that makes maintenance a breeze for the lucky person in the house who gets to scoop it (that would be my husband).

Be sure to stroll by the pet aisle at Dollar General on your next trip and check out the Tidy Cats Lightweight litter! Slap a bow on that cute, recyclable jug and you’ve got a perfect Christmas gift for your kitty, too! 🙂

Dollar General Hookup for Cold and Flu Season

December 2, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

Have you fallen in love with Dollar General, yet? Since I started writing about all the amazing deals there, it has become a favorite place for me to shop! And today I've got the perfect deal for you, just in time for cold and flu season.

Let's be real, it totally stinks to get sick. And doesn't it always seem to happen at the world's most inconvenient time? Having to go to the store to buy all of your medicine and supplies really just adds insult to injury. You already feel terrible, and now you have to pay for all of this stuff? RUDE.

 photo Kleenex_zps8143f8c3.png

Well, from 12/8 to 12/21at Dollar General  you can get a 25 ct package of  HALLS Breezers® Cough Drops for FREE when you purchase two packs of KLEENEX® COOL TOUCH® Facial Tissues. And you were going to buy those anyway, so this works out just great!

Having a sore throat feels so yucky, but Halls Breezers® can definitely help with that, and while they are working, you get to enjoy the great flavors, such as Cool Berry® , Cool Creamy Strawberry® and Tropical Chill®. They've got a little someone for everyone, and they are non-mentholated!

And if you haven't yet tried the KLEENEX® COOL TOUCH®, then you really are in for a treat. They have a unique blend of moisturizers and aloe in them, and when the tissue comes in contact with body heat, it releases cooling comfort. No more scratchy, irritated red noses!

I hope you don't get sick this year, but if you are like me, you get one cold each winter, if not more. Best to be prepared for it with some really soothing cough drops and tissues that provide cooling comfort! Dollar General can help you out, and for a terrific price. Discounts are good, but free is even better! 🙂

Eat, Drink, Chew and Tell On Your Daddy

October 3, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 2 Comments

This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

Darah is 4 years old, and in my book, totally not old enough to be chewing gum. Even though I really enjoy chewing gum, myself (shout out, peppermint flavor!), I try not to chew it in front of her, because she will ALWAYS ask if she can have any.

Why won’t I let her? To be honest, it has to do with my own misuse of gum as a child. I had very long hair (just as Darah does, currently) and I would get gum stuck in my hair. A LOT. To the point where my father found me one day locked in the bathroom having asked my brother to go get the scissors for me and slide them under the door. I also instructed him to NOT tell dad, who was home with us at the time. Thank goodness he went straight to dad, because if he hadn’t, I would have cut a chunk out of my hair! I was around 7 at the time, years older than my 4 year old, and yet I still was being irresponsible with gum.

Tim thinks perhaps it isn’t fair to use my past as a grounds for not letting Darah try something new. I can see where he is coming from, but I’ve been holding my ground on this one.

I’ve had to travel a lot for work this year, and after one recent trip, Darah very excitedly told me as soon as I got home that her daddy gave her a piece of gum.

Sigh……

Let that be a lesson to us all. Your children WILL tell on you when you do something sneaky behind your spouse’s back!

Now to Tim’s credit, he talked with Darah at length about how to chew gum (and not swallow it, not play with it, not stick it places other than the trash) and Darah is quite a rule follower, so she seemed to understand what was being asked of her in exchange for this big girl promotion to “gum chewer” status.

So now getting to chew a piece of gum is a very special thing, which happens only occasionally, and with adult supervision. I’m still not so sure about if it was the right call to let this pass, but perhaps I should just be open to the possibility that my little one will be responsible with her gum.

And now I’ve got to keep the house stocked with something yummy for us all. Darah seems to like the peppermint flavor, just like me, so I’m going to be getting the NEW Orbit Value Pack, available at Dollar General. They come with two 7 piece packs for 14 pieces of gum total. And why Dollar General? Because they have the very lowest prices on the value pack. I’m all about saving some money, people! They come in peppermint or spearmint, so you can choose your favorite.

I’ll keep you posted on if the Orbit® gum stays in its proper orbit (hee hee) or if it launches into a realm that isn’t allowed (please let it not be her hair…)

So what do you think? When did you let your children start chewing gum? And has your child ever “told” on your significant other?

Why Dollar General Is On My Errand List Today

August 11, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 3 Comments

This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

This morning I have a few things that I need to pick up at a big box store. On the way to that store, there is a Dollar General. Today I’m going to be stopping at that Dollar General to pick up some items that I likely could also find at the big box store, but that I can save big on by shopping here!

KRAFT products have made their way into Dollar General stores, and the prices are smokin’ hot!

KRAFT for School Lunch Prep

The KRAFT line is particularly helpful as we head back into the school year and I have to start thinking about school lunches, as well as meal and snack ideas that are easy and delicious. On my shopping list today are the following:

  • Maxwell House K-cups. They aren’t an iced coffee version, but these will be perfect for my afternoon coffee, which I can make about an hour in advance and get cooled down enough by the time I’m ready to drink it. Refueling for the second half of the day is critical for this working mama!
  • PLANTERS nuts. Dollar General has a terrific selection of this line, and nuts provide a BIG energy boost. I love including them in Darah’s lunch to help her power through her day. They are also a healthy snack option for me (much better to reach for some almonds when hunger strikes than some chocolate chips!).
  • CAPRI SUN Big Pouch. This will be the last year that Darah still comes home at lunch. But she LOVES getting to have a packed lunch when she gets home. It is hilarious! CAPRI SUN products are one of her favorite things to find in her lunch box, so it is time to get stocked up!
  • A.1. Dry Rub. I have really come to realize that a good rub can make even the cheapest cuts of meat come alive with flavor. That’s good for my wallet! And bonus, these types of recipes usually do really well in the slow cooker (which is nearly effortless) or on the grill (I do the marinating and leave the cooking up to Tim!). Either way, it is easy for me! 🙂

Additionally, I’m going to check out the KOOL-AID LIQUID product, which is brand new, and available at Dollar General. I’m not sure yet if I’m going to buy it, but I am feeling tempted on account of the yummy sounding Frosty Strawberry Pops recipe I saw on the Dollar General site and that uses the product. I’ll decide if I want to go for it after I see it in person! You can find this recipe, as well as information on all KRAFT products at Dollar General online.

The Price is Right

I mentioned earlier that the deals were smokin’ hot at Dollar General on KRAFT products. Right now, if you buy any 2 KRAFT items you can save extra with their special coupons. New deals are happening all the time, so be sure to check the website regularly and download your coupons!

What are you purchasing for school lunches this year? Did you know that you can find KRAFT items at Dollar General? Be sure to go check them out and make lunch and snack prep easier for yourself!

Dollar General “Bracket of the Brands” on Facebook….GREAT Coupons!

March 21, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

It’s March, which means that it is March Madness time! Maybe that is exciting to you?

It’s pretty much meaningless to me. Basketball is a fun sport to watch, but I don’t really watch any sports, so I really don’t keep up with who is winning.

But Dollar General has just made this particular season MUCH more fun, in my eyes. I’d like to introduce you to    Dollar General’s Bracket of the Brands. You can find this on the Dollar General Facebook page. Basically, you get the opportunity each week to choose a brand that you’d like to get a great coupon for (I got to choose between Ritz and Planters). You have to answer 3 fun trivia questions, and then you get to print your coupon. Here’s a screen shot of how I did. I answered 2 out of 3 questions right about Planters. Woo hoo!

Every week that you play, the Dollar General coupons increase in value, so you definitely want to come back for more. The Bracket of Brands Game will end on 3/25, so make sure that you go to their facebook page, like Dollar General, and get started. The more you play, the more great coupons you can score!

Basketball I can live without, but give me an opportunity to play for high value coupons, and I’m all about it! Either Ritz or Planters is going to go up against Axe for the finals in a week. It’s up to us to determine who it is!
