Who Makes You Smile? This Contest Will! (Trip to NYC, $1,000 and Teeth Whitening!)

February 6, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

You know I LOVE sharing great giveaways with my readers, and this one is certainly no exception. Up for grabs is the following:

  • All-expenses trip paid to NYC for 2
  • $1,000 in spending money so that you can have an absolute ball in the Big Apple
  • Teeth-whitening smile makeover so that all the pictures you take grinning from ear to ear on your trip will look amazing!

TopDentists.com is sponsoring this awesome contest, and they are also offering daily prizes for entrants for various fun whitening products. So get over there and get yourself entered right away!

Entering is super easy. All you have to do is upload a picture of yourself with someone who makes you smile and write a brief caption (140 characters or less, which is the size of a tweet!) about the photo. The top 5 submissions will be eligible for the grand prize. The votes will be tallied on March 16th. So get your friends and family to start voting for your shot!

Additionally, if you happen to live within 100 miles of the following locations, you are also eligible to win a regional prize, which consists of a teeth whitening treatment from a dentist (I’ve had one of these before and the results are GREAT!). The locations are as follows:

  • Troy, MI
  • Philadelphia, PA
  • Aventura, FL
  • Austin, TX
  • Beverly Hills, CA

What do you have to lose except for a less-than-sparkling smile? Enter now! And if you win and happen to need someone to come with you on the trip, I’m available! 😉

Tim’s Trip to the Dentist: A Comedy

September 16, 2011 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

I thought you might be due for a funny story on the blog. It’s abut the time that Tim got all 4 of his wisdom teeth removed, which happened about 15 months ago. I remember it like it was yesterday, though!
If you’ve never had your wisdom teeth removed, then you should know two main things. First, the surgery is surprisingly quick. I believe the time between when Tim left the waiting room to see the doctor and be sedated and when I was told he was in recovery totaled 40 minutes. And that’s for all 4 teeth to come out!.
The second thing to know is that you must have someone with you to drive you home after your surgery. You are completely loopy afterwards. It needs to be someone you can really trust, because you may say some interesting things on your drive home!
You also need to have someone on hand to help you out who can pay close attention to the medicine directions you receive, which change over the course of the next few days.
When I saw Tim come out of surgery and to the car, it was actually really a tough moment for me, because I saw my rock looking helpless and weak. I actually felt a little bit sad as I looked at him. But let me tell you, he turned my frown upside-down almost immediately. Because he was a RIOT on those drugs, people!
The first thing he told me as the nurse was helping him get into the car was, “I did good! I had surgery!” (Remember, he’s got cotton balls stuffed in his mouth, so you can imagine how this actually sounded, I’m sure). He had the pride of a 6 year old who just won a coloring contest, folks. I was so surprised by it that I had to turn my head so he didn’t see me crack up.
We had a 25 minute drive back to our house, and I needed to stop at Walgreens to get his prescription filled as well. I told  him repeatedly where we were going and what we were doing because he would ask every 2-3 minutes where we were. About 7 minutes into the drive he announced, “I changed my mind. I don’t need any drugs. I feel FINE!” Good thing I was there to veto that decision! He also professed his undying love for me multiple times on the way home, which was super sweet. Even in his loopiest state, he still wants to tell me he loves me!
When we arrived at Walgreens he asked me to buy him some water. Poor thing. Drinking it did NOT go well. He basically just spilled water down the front of his shirt. His response to this situation was, “Oh no. I forgot how to drink.”
He said so many hilarious things on that 25 minute car ride home. Those drugs really were powerful, and that’s a good thing, since 4 humongous teeth had been yanked from his body in a 30 minute time span.
What about you? Ever been sedated at the dentist and have a funny story about something you said? Ever taken care of anyone still under the “spell” of anesthesia?
