Fashion Friday: A Comfy Dress and That Scarf!

October 21, 2016 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

Affiliate links included at no cost to you. Thanks, Cents of Style for sending review products my way!

One of my all-time favorite places to shop, Cents of Style, is having a fun sale this week on the Remi Swing Dress, which is a great little dress to wear all fall and winter long. It comes in a variety of colors (17 different shades, to be exact) and has a sweet, simple look (and it’s quite roomy so you can feel extra comfy in it!).

The dress is on mega sale today for $21.95 with free shipping (use code DRESS2016 at checkout) and I thought you might like to know about it! It comes in sizes small to 3XL (I’m rocking a large). Perhaps my favorite thing about this dress, besides how comfortable it is, is the fact that it makes the perfect backdrop for a showstopper accessory, like this fantastic Lori multi-color blanket scarf, also available from Cents of Style.

How I wish there was a way to reach through the computer screen and feel this fabric! It is SOOOO soft (it reminds me of alpaca, though of course without the alpaca price tag!) and the colors are so fun. Basically I put this scarf on and I just want to snuggle all day. And yeah, put it over my head, too.

I have no idea why I like to wrap stuff over my head like this, but I’ve been doing it since I was a teenager. Now you know something weird about me! 🙂 When I wrap something over my head that’s like my gold stamp, y’all. This scarf is such a winner, and the whole outfit is a perfect example of my favorite types of clothing to wear this time of year: cozy, comfy and rich with color. This scarf is going to be the piece that I wear with anything and everything this season. The fact that it has so many colors woven throughout it ensures that it goes with pretty much everything.

Definitely check out the hot new items on Cents of Style today. They have awesome sales on the regular, so it’s well worth signing up for their newsletters!

Spring Has Sprung with Happy Scarf: Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

March 22, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · 136 Comments

Spring has sprung, no doubt about it! The trees down here are blooming like crazy. The temperature is quickly rising. And my allergies are going crazy! I guess that’s the price some of us have to pay for such a beautiful awakening of nature. It’s worth it…especially if you have some allergy medication!

I have often heard other women complain about “transition” time for their wardrobes. It can be really tricky to know how to dress when it is 45 degrees when you leave for work and 79 degrees by the time you come back home.

This is when a scarf can be your wardrobe’s very best friend! I have been wearing scarves several times each week for the past few weeks to help warm up or even cool down some of my outfits. They can bring a pop of bright colors to an outfit that looks decidedly “winter.” They can also provide a little extra warmth to some of your spring pieces that are still a little bit tough to wear for the first part of the day.

Happy Scarf is an online company that I have reviewed before (their scarves held up BEAUTIFULLY all winter, by the way!). They have an AWESOME selection of scarves in all sorts of fabrics and beautiful colors and prints. And their prices are excellent! Be sure to check out their current $12 scarf clearance section…I spotted some SERIOUS steals in there!

Happy Scarf also has a line of brand new arrivals, just in time for spring. So much pretty!!! I have been sporting two of their newest looks and have been oh so very pleased. My first pick from their collection, in honor of my college sorority (Chi Omega; the owl is the mascot) is this fabulous owl scarf. It is a hoot! (hee hee!). I wear LOTS of purple, and I’ve been using this scarf with some of my winter purple looks to help give them a brighter, happier look.

The second scarf I’ve been sporting (I’m actually wearing it as I type this) was one that was a bit riskier for me….I usually shy away from bold prints on scarves, but I felt that needed to change for spring. So I went for the poppy flower scarf. I AM IN LOVE!!!!! Why have I been so darn shy about going for a bold scarf? It adds SO much to my outfits. For example, today I am wearing a shirt that is a very pretty blue color, but it honestly just looks like a tent on me (I’m super pregnant, remember?). When adding this scarf to the outfit, it changes my whole attitude, and it brings in some new colors while complimenting the blue I’m already wearing. I don’t feel ugly in this shirt anymore, and that’s a new feeling!

Are you in need of something to brighten up the last of your winter wear? Or do you need something to bring a little extra warmth as you break out your spring collection? Then you need a Happy Scarf (or two, or three…)! I highly recommend this company. The quality is great, the looks are on trend and the prices are nice!

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader will win the scarf of your choice from the New Arrivals collection!

Happy Scarf Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

December 8, 2011 · by Tiffany Merritt · 121 Comments

I love fall and winter the very most in terms of fashion choices. Comfy sweaters, stylish boots, cute jeans, and my favorite of all, SCARVES!

Scarves are seriously the saving grace of a girl on a budget. They can take a plain Jane outfit and make it chic in about 10 seconds. Trust me, I know, as I have a closet full of plain Jane clothes (or at least clothes that aren’t at the height of fashion at the moment). But I have a fantastic selection of scarves, and I get compliments on my “outfit” every single time I wear them. But I know the truth…the scarf is what really pops. The rest of the outfit is completely forgettable, but with help from the scarf, it gets transformed into something worthy of a compliment!

And today I want to highlight a store that has an AMAZING selection of scarves that really pop, and all at price points you are going to love! It’s called Happy Scarf, and let me just show you the beautiful pieces I have from their collection.

First up, for the holidays I got this too-pretty-for-words red scarf that is wide enough to be used as a shawl, also. It is SUPER soft and makes me feel totally cozy. It is absolutely striking and will be part of my Christmas outfit for sure. The first time I wore it out, Tim was actually stopped by a gentleman and told that he had a beautiful wife. Um…let me think about the last time that happened. Oh yeah, I remember…NEVER! It looks and feels so posh and it keeps me warm, too. I will be hanging on to this scarf for years and years! And the price tag is a fabulous $15.99!

Next, I have a casual blue scarf that is so soft and delicate, but adds visual interest to my outfits (and looks so nice with jeans!). I find the design to be so pretty. I love that muted look…so calming! This new addition to their collection can be yours for $19.20.

Don’t miss the $12 scarf sale that is happening right now…LOTS of pashmina on clearance and simply a ton of holiday bargains, either for yourself or a friend.

Simply put, Happy Scarf is a major online find, and a place where you can snag some serious help for your wardrobe at bargain-basement prices. I would highly recommend checking them out. I know you will be really impressed with the quality of the products you receive! They also have a free shipping, free exchange and free return policy. You can’t beat that!!

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need winner will receive a scarf of your choice from the New Arrivals category! Lucky!!!!

Infinity Scarf Makes a Splash!

May 5, 2010 · by Tiffany Merritt · 107 Comments

One of my very favorite ways to accessorize is by wearing scarves. I’m so glad that decorative scarves have grown in popularity. Now there are so many pretty pieces that can take the most boring of outfits and make it stand out.I wore scarves all the time this winter. infinity scarf I’ve been feeling a bit lost in the accessory department now that the weather has warmed up. I have some nice jewelry, but a scarf just seems to pull an outfit together so effortlessly!

If you can relate to this feeling, Terry, the owner of Etsy shop Memphis Gypsy, has a solution for you! She has created super cute infinity scarves that are perfect for spring! Hooray! Terry sent me this navy and purple floral scarf to try out. Just adding a whimsical scarf to an outfit can make all the difference between looking drab and looking very put together, and this scarf has definitely brought new life to a few of my work outfits as well as to my weekend attire. I’ve had several people comment on what a great idea the spring/summer scarf is, and I have to agree! Scarves at Memphis Gypsy are 34 inches around and about 6 inches wide.

In addition to working with various fabrics and knits to make scarves, Terry also loves to work with beads and resin material. When I asked her what her favorite thing to make was, she answered, “Well that’s a hard question, it is kind of like asking a mom what child is her favorite. I just love creating and wearing what I make. It really depends on my mood, whatever I am making at the time is usually my favorite and then changes an hour or so later.” Can’t you tell that Terry is such a creative force with a passion for living life to its fullest?

Here’s an example of her passion in action. Terry is a woman with a dream. She offers her creations for sale not only because she truly loves to make things, but also because she is working hard to make the cut for the hit show, “So You Think You Can Dance!” She was featured a few times during season 6 (if you watched it, she was the girl in all white). She got some encouraging feedback from the judges, and her goal is to make it to Las Vegas during season 7! Any money she makes from selling her crafts goes to help Terry get to the audition and live out her dream. Pretty cool, huh?

So why is Terry’s Shop called, “Memphis Gypsy?” She says, “I am just a girl from Memphis who loves to make jewelry. I get called ‘Gypsy’ all the time ( mostly by my mother) because I can never narrow down what accessories I want to wear so I wear everything!” Now she gets to pass on her flare for accessories to others through her Etsy shop!

Since this series is about highlighting artists in Memphis, I asked Terry what her favorite thing is about the city. Her answer? The live music scene! She says, “There are so many under-appreciated musicians in Memphis. You can pretty much go see a great band any night of the week. I only wish I had more time to go see more bands.”She is so right. Memphis has produced the King of Rock ‘N Roll, and what few people realize is that the talent pool here continues to be amazingly rich. If you are a fan of truly great music, a vacation to Memphis should be in your plans, for sure.

Buy It!: If you are looking for a versatile piece to add to your wardrobe, the silky scarf from Memphis Gypsy is what you are seeking! Scarves are available in several designs for $15.00.
