Free Diapers and Being Part of a Movement at the Seventh Generation Twitter Party!

November 11, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

I participated in this program on behalf of Seventh Generation and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own, as always.
Can we talk about something really important for a few minutes? Can we talk about the over-abundance of toxic chemicals in our homes and our world, and just how confusing it is to navigate what is safe and what might not be? This is an issue that concerns me, and also really confuses me. Just when I think I’ve got a handle on things, a new study will come out that gives new information and leaves me scratching my head. Healthy Child, Healthy World and Seventh Generation totally gets this, and they are starting a movement to help us all figure things out.

Some of the statistics are really alarming. Did you know the following, for example:

  • There are more than 80,000 chemicals registered for use in the U.S. Comprehensive pre-market safety testing of these chemicals is not required under any federal law.

  • The primary U.S. law that regulates chemicals in every day products hasn’t been updated in more than 35 years.

  • In the European Union (EU), 1,328 chemicals have been banned for use in personal care products. In the U.S., only 11 chemicals have been banned or restricted by the FDA.

  • Scientific evidence continues to point to the chemicals we are exposed to in our daily lives as causing or contributing to the rise in childhood behavioral disorders and diseases.

  • Cancer is now the leading cause of child-related death in the U.S., exceeded only by injury.

Parents Joining Forces

Trust me, I know that all the information out there is scary and confusing. I certainly have moments where I just want to plug up my ears and pretend I don’t know anything about this stuff. In the short run, that certainly would be the easier route to take! But I’ve also learned that by joining forces with the right educators and with other parents, developing a clear understanding of the problems AND a clear strategy for how to solve them is very doable. There is strength in numbers, and in knowledge!

Seventh Generation Twitter Party

Will you join me this Thursday, November 14th, at 1pm ET for a Twitter party with Seventh Generation? We’re going to talk about all-natural baby product options. Additionally, you’ll learn about an awesome opportunity called the Healthy Baby Home Party. This is something you can apply to host, and it gives moms and dads a really neat way to engage and educate your family and friends on topics like creating a healthy environment for the next generation. When you host a Healthy Baby Home Party, you also receive all sorts of fun samples and helpful information to distribute to your guests! Very fun!

My Favorite Bathroom Cleaning Products

August 11, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago I shared some of my very favorite products to use in the laundry room, and based on some emails I received, it seems that you all are really curious about what other people use to keep clean and tidy around the house! So I thought I’d also share with you my very favorite products to use when I do my very least favorite chore: cleaning the bathroom. Some of the links are affiliates. Click here for more info on the little girl you are supporting with your purchases!

my favorite bathroom cleaning products

Shaklee Basic H2. One bottle of this concentrated formula will make DOZENS of bottles of glass cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, and de-greaser. I use the de-greaser to clean the sinks and the counter in the bathroom. Works like a charm. One of the most economical cleaning purchases I’ve ever made, and it is eco-friendly, too! Don’t forget to pick up the spray bottles!

Skoy Cloth. These are a GREAT alternative to paper towels, especially for cleaning up messes. They are more durable, they are washable, and they can handle big messes like cleaning bathrooms. My Skoy cloths have been doing strong for 2 1/2 years, and are just now nearing the end of their life cycle. I’ll be buying more, for sure!

Emily Scrub by Eco-Me. Affordable, fume-free alternative to Comet. Works great, too!

Seventh Generation Toilet Bowl Cleaner. Been using it for 2 years. It works just as well as my old (harsh chemical) stuff. Never switching back!

What are your favorite products to use when cleaning the bathroom? Have you tried any of my favorites??

During the party there will be four gift baskets containing the ENTIRE line of Seventh Generation baby care and home care products (wowzers!). Seventh Generation Cold Care Kit Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

November 6, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · 174 Comments

Halloween has come and gone, but that’s not when the scary monsters really come out to play, at least not in my experience. November is the time when the scariest creatures start to follow you, your spouse, and most definitely your kids home, with you totally unsuspecting.

I’m talking about germs. For being microscopic in size, they sure can bring us humans to our knees, and fast!

Seventh Generation is ready to help you prevent those nasty germs from crossing your doorstep. And if they are foolish enough to enter your lair, they won’t be alive long enough to wreak havoc on your immune system!

I’ve been using products from the Seventh Generation Cold Care kit and I’ve been really pleased with everything. I definitely feel well-equipped to handle the fall and winter months, and all the nasty germs that come along with this time of year.

I absolutely love their new hand washes. They smell great and they wash away all those gross germs without polluting the water. And when we finish up the box of tissues, Seventh Generation has a cute video tutorial that shows how I can turn that box into a monster (not a germ, but a cute, lovable monster).

And speaking of Seventh Generation products being safe and sound for the planet and for humans, can I just say that I’m so glad they are, and for many reasons! Not the least of which being that this totally happened…

Sheesh!

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader will win a Cold Care kit from Seventh Generation!

Seventh Generation Cleanhouse Challenge (GIVEAWAY!!!)

October 10, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · 148 Comments

I love Seventh Generation products. I’ve been using them in my home for over 2 years now and I find the quality to be top notch. Their home cleaning items, their feminine care items, their laundry items and even some of their baby care items are all used in my home regularly. I have yet to try a product from Seventh Generation that I didn’t like!

They have just released three new specialty cleaners, as well (wood, granite/stone and stainless steel) and I’m absolutely thrilled with them!

Here’s a shot of my dirty stainless steel microwave.

Here’s my Seventh Generation Stainless Steel cleaner attacking.

And here’s my bright and shiny microwave after just a few wipes. What a difference!

I’m so happy that Seventh Generation has launched these products. I have personally found it difficult to find eco-friendly products that are specially designed for these surfaces. Each product in this line is 18 oz, comes in a sleek design (I absolutely LOVE these see-through bottles) and is just $4.99. Gotta love that! Since they are new, you may have trouble finding them on your local store shelves. But not to worry, you can easily order them online!

I also want to highlight Seventh Generation’s Natural Laundry Detergent, which is available in convenient single-use packs. You just toss them directly into your wash and let it get to work on your dirty clothes! I’ve used them for the past 7 loads of laundry that I’ve done and every single load has come out looking great! You can purchase these online in 30 count for $9.99 or 50 count for $15.99.

In addition to all these great new products, Seventh Generation also has a super fun Facebook App that they have just launched in partnership with one of the very best magazines out there, Real Simple. It’s called the Cleanhouse Challenge, and it invites users to explore a virtual house and get great tips on how to keep a healthy and green home. And while you are poking around, you will discover coupons and maybe even a few prizes! FUN!!!

I just took the Cleanhouse Challenge, myself, and I learned some really great tips! I also got a BUNCH of coupons (I honestly lost count of the total!) AND when I finished the entire challenge, Seventh Generation committed to making a $10 donation on my behalf to 350.org, which is an environmental organization focused on solving the climate crisis. Not bad for 15 minutes of my time, I think! Also, there were some really good videos made by fellow mom bloggers and that was probably my favorite thing. I am a regular reader of some of then, which made it especially fun to watch!

So hop on over to the Facebook app and learn some good tips, score some great coupons, and make a $10 donation to a great organization without spending a dime!

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader will win all the cleaning products I featured here today!

Seventh Generation Partners with The Lorax! GIVEAWAY!!!

March 11, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · 136 Comments

I’m all geared up to go cloth from the start with baby #2. I plan to go cloth as soon as the umbilical cord falls off! I’ll have a few days where I need to use disposables, and about 2 weeks after baby is born, we’ll be hitting the road for a few days to go to my sister’s wedding. Cloth is totally doable on the road, but I just don’t want to mess with it in the midst of trying to enjoy Laura’s big day. So I’ll be taking some disposables. But I still want to keep all those nasty chemicals away from my newborn, so I’m being quite choosy about which disposables I will be using. is what I’m going to use!

They have actually just released a new and improved Free & Clear diaper product line, and are launching these products with a little help from Dr. Suess’ “The Lorax!” The Lorax is the “Speaker for the Trees” in this classic tale, which Universal Studios’ has now released as a motion picture. He is a great advocate for those who may not be able to advocate for themselves (the earth, the animals, the air). Seventh Generation will feature limited edition Lorax prints on all diapers and training pants. This is such a great way to remind parents and caregivers that we are responsible for caring for the earth, and we don’t speak up, who will?

Seventh Generation has an entire line of Free & Clear baby products that your family is sure to love, including brand new overnight diapers. Hooray! Free & Clear diapers also have improved tabs for a better fit and the training pants have an absorbant core made with more renewable materials. Seventh Generation truly listens to feedback from its customers to ensure that they put the very best products possible on the shelves. Furthermore, these products are free of chlorine, fragrance, petroleum-based lotions or latex and they are hypo-allergenic.

Beginning March 2nd, if you purchase any 3 Free & Clear diaper products, you can register for a FREE The Lorax scrapbook! Fun!

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader is going to win a prize pack with the following great items:

  • A copy of Dr. Seuss´s The Lorax storybook
  • One package of new Seventh Generation Free & Clear diaper product

Cleaning Stuff Overhaul: I’m Going Green!

March 25, 2010 · by Tiffany Merritt · 321 Comments

We’ve been dabbling in more environmentally friendly cleaning stuff over the last year or so, but thanks to Seventh Generation, we have now pretty much completely made the switch, and we aren’t looking back! We’ve been using several products from the Healthy Home Kit in our

eco-friendly cleaning stuff home and have seen results that are every bit as good as the more toxic stuff we formerly used! The Healthy Home kit includes the following:

  • Kitchen Cleaner
  • All-Purpose Cleaner
  • Glass & Surface Cleaner
  • Shower Cleaner
  • Toilet Bowl Cleaner
  • Tub & Tile Cleaner
  • Brown Paper Towels

I’ve tried everything, and here are my thoughts. The Shower Cleaner and the Tub & Tile Cleaner both smelled terrific! These were the products that stood out the very most to me. Our former bathroom cleaners gave us headaches because the fumes were so bad, but we thought we needed something that strong to get rid of all the grime in there. I’m glad to report that we were wrong, and I only wish that we had realized it sooner! The Toilet Bowl Cleaner also gets the job done just as effectively as our old stuff. The All-Purpose Cleaner has been used throughout our house as a “go-to” product for everything from carpet stains to wiping down fixtures. The Glass & Surface Cleaner is every bit as effective as Windex, in my opinion, and is much better for the environment. It’s a winner! The Kitchen Cleaner smells absolutely awesome (it is scented with wild orange and cedar spice). I found that if I spray down the counters and the stove top with this product and just let it sit for a minute or two, all the icky comes right off. Basically, every single cleaning product I tried from Seventh Generation did exactly what it was supposed to do, minus the nasty chemicals. Hooray! We are moving away from paper towels in our home, but there are times when we have messes that just need to be picked up and thrown away (cat hairballs, anyone?!). I’ve really enjoyed having the Seventh Generation Brown Paper Towels around to clean up these messes. They are made from unbleached, 100% recycled paper!

It is wonderful to be able to clean pretty much anything in the house with Darah in tow. I don’t have any worries about any of these products touching her skin or of her inhaling the fumes, because there are no fumes! We’ve actually been putting her in her baby carrier now while we clean up. This makes life easier and more fun for all of us!

In addition to the great cleaning stuff I’ve mentioned, Seventh Generation also offers a lot of other great items for your family and home including trash bags, laundry detergent, and diapers, just to name a few!
