Why a Single Electric Breast Pump is My Choice: Tommee Tippee Breast Pump Review

June 6, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

With Darah, I had a double electric breast pump. This was really necessary for me as I was working full-time, and needed the quickest way possible to pump while at work.

This time around, I work from home. I can breastfeed or pump any time I’d like! I’m choosing to breastfeed almost exclusively, which means that I’m not building up a supply of breast milk in the freezer as quickly as I did the first time around. But I’m still slowly working on that, and I’m going slowly because I’ve learned that if I’m pumping a lot in addition to always feeding the baby, I’m going to send my body the message that I need MORE milk, and then I’ll be producing more milk. Since Layah already seems to be a bit of a chunk putting on weight at a healthy but rapid clip, making even more milk is not something I really need to be doing at the moment.

The best times for me to pump are on those occasions where Layah doesn’t really eat a full “meal” at one feeding. Sometimes she just wants to drink from one breast and then go back to sleep. Other times she wants both breasts, but she feeds so quickly that I know she’s left a fair amount of milk behind. Those are the times when it’s great to break out my Tommee Tippee Single Electric Breast Pump System. The single electric pump is better for me than a double pump because I’m not having to pump to replace what a baby would be doing during a feeding. I simply need to collect a small amount, and often just from one breast.

This pump system is simpler than the double-electric system I had before, and once again, I’m pleased with that change. It has just 3 settings for its pumping strength. As your baby’s suck increases over time, you can change the setting on your pump, as well. At this point, the first setting is still working great for me.

I’ve also found the silicone cup that goes around your breast to be more comfortable than what I had previously. After reading my manual, I learned that the product actually sends out massaging ripples to better mimic a baby’s feeding.

The kit also comes with bottles for feeding and a storage container for your milk, as well. It’s really nice to have all of these items included in one set; makes an excellent gift for an expecting mom, I think!

If you feel as though you would need a double electric pump in your situation, Tommee Tippee has you covered! They have just come out with the Double Electric Breast Pump System! Both products can be purchased at Babies R Us and Target, and the Single Electric Breast Pump System I’ve reviewed retails for $46.99.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary product for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Maternity Monday: Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

March 19, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · 63 Comments

We are really getting into nesting mode around the house! Part of that experience has been bringing down Darah’s baby toys from the attic and getting them all prepped for the new baby. We all know that cleaning baby toys is important for the prevention of spreading germs, but what if the products, themselves, leave a harmful residue?

This is a non-issue with a great new line of products from Tommee Tippee! Their Closer to Nature line includes a sterliant collection. We’ve been using a few things from the line, and have been really impressed. This range of cleaning products helps you offer long lasting production against 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.

But you don’t need to worry about the products, themselves, being dangerous, either. They are completely safe because the cleaning agents are plant-derived. Yay!

We’ve been using the Baby Gear and Feeding Surface Cleaner to get all the toys ready for action. I will also be using this a great deal once it is time to use the high chair!

Another product we’ve been using A LOT lately is the Antibacterial Hand Soap Mousse. This is in a convenient pump bottle that we keep by the kitchen sink for the frequent hand washing we need to do (did I mention that both Darah and her dad caught Hand, Foot and Mouth disease a few weeks ago?). I have been able to keep the illness at bay thanks to having this product on hand.

Win it!:
One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader will win two products of your choice from the Closer to Nature Sterliants line!Other products in the Closer to Nature line include an Antibacterial Gel (great for the diaper bag!) and a Pacifier, Nipple, Teether and Toy Wipe (yet another diaper bag must for when baby spits out her binky and it falls on the ground!). The prices for these products range from $2.99-$9.99 and can be found at Target stores across the nation.

Tommee Tippee The Day Baby Was Born Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

October 26, 2011 · by Tiffany Merritt · 72 Comments

My sister-in-law asked me a few months ago if I thought traditional baby books were outdated. I had never really pondered this question before, and it gave me pause. I did have a traditional baby book for Darah. But I had to make notes in my calendar to remind myself to fill it out from time to time. While it has some good information in it, it is definitely limited. And I haven’t touched the thing in 6 months, even though it is designed to record special events for the first 3 years of life.

Since I’m a blogger, I can’t use the excuse that I’m just not much of a writer. I write every single day! So perhaps the problem is with the product, itself. A book that sits on a shelf really might not be the best way for me to record memories. I’m much more likely to read and write online than anywhere else; maybe that should be the place I go to record special memories, too!

A trusted brand for babies, Tommee Tippee, has recently launched a new web application. It is a FREE digital storybook called The Day Baby Was Born, and it is a really great way to capture all the special moments throughout your pregnancy and the days before and after the baby’s birth.

For this pregnancy, this is the route I’m choosing to take. I can upload ultrasound pics, write down notes about my appointments with the doctor and even make note of those crazy cravings I get from time to time. I’m finding it much easier to log into the site and make a quick note and I really like that the product being put together looks so polished and professional. For someone like me who will NEVER own a scrapbook, its really nice to get to have something personal that looks so great!

What I also like about The Day Baby Was Born is that it is so easy to share with others. You can use the application to create pregnancy and birth announcements for Facebook, and you can also share the memories you have been capturing with others easily. Love that!

If you’d like to see a sample of what a storybook looks like, check out this one (no, it isn’t mine, but it is really good!): http://www.thedaybabywasborn.com/pdf/tt_storybook_example2b.pdf

I’d highly encourage you to consider going digital for your next baby book. And you can get started from t he moment you discover that you are expecting! The end product looks fantastic, and it is absolutely free. Thanks so much, Tommee Tippee!
