Have a bag of toys for the car. It helps to have some new toys. We keep a bag for travel in our closet and only use them for travel so they are like “new” toys to them and they are interested in them.

Be sure to leave for your trip when it is nap time – hoping they will sleep for a while in the car
When traveling by car, plan to stop often and for a good length of time so that they can get out and run around and burn off some energy. I try to stop at fast-food chains or rest areas with playgrounds and let them play for about 15 minutes at each stop.
We pack tiny toys, snacks, and little notebooks in a lunchbox for the kids. They only get these specific toys during long trips.
Make sure you travel when the child will be sleeping that seems to work best in car rides

My best tip is to take along a “busy” bag with toys they are only allowed to have on trips.
We just bought a DVD player for the headrest for the car, so that lots of snacks, and games to play in the car!

Leave while they are asleep! Preferably during the weee early morning. I made many trips from Florida to Michigan, and made the best time when the kids were asleep!
Keep that sippy cup handy (for popping painful ears) on the plane ride! I also took one of those magnetic drawing boards for my daughter, and she was thoroughly entertained for the whole trip to Florida. And we rented a plane “seat belt” for her for safety’s sake.
My best tip to travelling with small children is to bring CDs or an IPOD and sing in the car. [Note: I only have one child, and this works for my daughter.]

Make sure you have alist of rest stops and have alist of things you can do in the car with a young one like sing songs or play pat-a-cake.

I bring lots of snacks and a cooler with a bottle of juice. I also try and bring some toys that can be easily played with in a carseat.

The best tip I can give you is diversion. Such as hand held games, music, books, dvd player is you have one, singing, talking about anything, snacks

This is my first year traveling with a baby, but it seems snacks are key. A DVD player sounds awesome!
I never travel without “trail mix” which I customize to each child’s likes. I just mix a whole bunch of dry snacks that they love and put them in a sippy cup with a lid that’s not too tight. I love that they can get to it themselves and that it’s full of something they already love but they still get to make choices and it keeps them occupied by searching for the things they want to eat first – cuts down on the noise 🙂

We just bought a DVD player that we could attach to the headrest in the van… thanks to Walmart’s Black Friday sale. We tried it out and ohmygoodness… she was the best rider every {which is not usually the case}. Although it’s only going to be reserved for long-er type trips, it’s truly gonna be a lifesaver, I think!
