Easy Chicken Recipes I Make Using Pre-Seasoned Chicken Breasts #InspireMyDinner

April 6, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 10 Comments

Even though my family has branched out over the past 2 years and been willing to try different types of meat, chicken is still by far our favorite, and specifically, chicken breasts. They are low in fat, they cook quickly and they are extremely versatile.

But in all honesty, they can also be a little bit bland, especially if you don’t take the time to add some great seasonings to them prior to cooking. And while I am quite comfortable in the kitchen since my family eats at home about 90% of the time, that doesn’t mean that I have endless recipe ideas floating around in my head. Sometimes the only thing I can think to do to a piece of chicken is sprinkle it with garlic salt and put it on the George Foreman. Nothing wrong with that, but my goodness, it gets BORING!!!

Over the past 2 days, I have been trying a brand new product, Tyson Individual Frozen Chicken Breasts in two flavors, Smokey Steakhouse and Southwest Pepper Trio. When they arrived at my doorstep, my mother-in-law (who is visiting me now) and I sat and stared at the bags for about 15 minutes, trying to come up with ideas for how to use them.

Finally, mom said something very smart: “I think we need to try them just as they are first, and see what they taste like. That will help us know how to use them in recipes.” Good idea!

Tyson #InspireMyDinner bags

We thawed out one breast from each bag, then put them on the George Foreman (which really is one of the best ways to grill up some chicken in a hurry). We were rather impressed with the flavor intensity that each breast had, even while still frozen. The smells alone started giving us ideas!

After sampling both pieces, we had some concrete plans, and we headed to Walmart to get what we would need to make several delicous meals. To see my full shopping trip, check out my Google+ album.

We have already made a recipe that I am LOVING. I love it because I would call it a “non-recipe” recipe. Here’s the basic idea:

“No Recipe Needed” Southwest Pepper Chicken Nachos

Tyson #InspireMyDinner Chicken Nachos ingredients

  • 2 Tyson Individual Chicken Breasts in Southwest Pepper Trio
  • tortilla chips
  • toppings of your choice (we used black beans, diced tomatoes, diced olives, green chiles and cheese)

You can place your frozen chicken breasts directly into the oven to cook for about 45 minutes. I LOVE this. No need to thaw first! Since they do take a while to cook from their frozen state, I recommend that you prepare the chicken in the morning, perhaps while you are getting ready for work. Then after work or close to dinner time, you can put the whole meal together with ease.

Tyson #InspireMyDinner diced chicken

I cut the cooked chicken into chunks, and then pulsed it a few times in the food processor to make shredded chicken. Then I simply built the nachos on a baking sheet to my liking and popped them in the oven at 450 for about 10 minutes. I had guacamole, sour cream and salsa available on the table for whoever wanted it.

Tyson #InspireMyDinner chicken nachos

It was absolutely delicious and what I loved the most is that it is highly customizable, so it really comes together without the need for any sort of recipe.

Here’s what my plate looked like 5 minutes after dinner was served.

Tyson #InspireMyDinner empty plate

Yeah, it was that good! The chicken is VERY flavorful. I have to say that I actually prefer it as a component of a recipe more than I liked it on its own, although I did like it both ways. But adding this chicken to the nachos really pulled the whole dish together, and gave it a really great taste. This is going to be one of our new go-to weeknight meals.

While I haven’t yet made anything else with the Smokey Steakhouse dinner, let me tell you what I have planned for it this next week.

Chickey Philly Sandwiches

Tyson #InspireMyDinner chicken philly sandwich ingredients

I purchased some hoagie buns, some sliced provolone cheese, some onions and some beautiful orange and yellow peppers. I am planning on slicing up an onion and half of each pepper, and then sauteeing those together on the stove with a bit of olive oil. I’ll add to it some cooked and diced Smokey Steakhouse chicken, add a slice of cheese, and then toast them, open-face on the hoagie buns, in the toaster oven. This is another “no recipe needed” recipe. And I’m a BIG fan of those. Since my husband and my oldest are both home for lunch, this is going to be a really hearty but really easy lunch option for us.

And here’s my other idea that we’ll make for dinner some time next week:

Smokey Chicken Alfredo

All you need to do for this is grill up your Tyson Smokey Steakhouse Chicken and cut it into bite-size chunks. Then make the pasta noodles of your choice (for me it will be fettucine). Add some delicious jarred alfredo sauce. Dinner is sreved! That’s right, folks, a 3 ingredient dinner. SO easy! And that smokey flavor will be such a great compliment to the mild afredo. I can’t wait for this meal!

I love that the Tyson Individual Frozen marinated chicken breasts can really help you put together fast dinner recipes that you don’t have to track down a recipe to make and that your family will love.

These great new flavors are going to hit Walmart stores on April 9th. I’ll be picking up some more, and want to recommend you try them, too! You can also get some great recipe ideas and learn about coupons by following Tyson on Twitter and Facebook.

What about you? Do you have any “non recipe” recipes that you love to make? Do you have any ideas for how you would use the Smokey Steakhouse or Southwest Pepper Trio chicken from Tyson?

Princess Sofia: Our Top Pick for Disney Princess (Giveaway!)

April 6, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 85 Comments

A few weeks ago, I surprised Darah with an introduction to Pricess Sofia by way of the movie Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess. I captured her reaction to seeing this new princess for the first time:

Toddler reacts to receiving Princess Sofia movie

Pretty cute, right? But really, think about it. ALL of the Disney princesses that are so popular are adult, or at least teenagers. This princess is young, so she really speaks to the young crowd. I’m not alone in thinking this, though. There is proof! Sofia the First, who also has a television series on Disney Junior, is the #1 cable tv series among both boys and girls ages 2-5!

I haven’t had the pleasure of watching the television series yet, but I really enjoyed the movie. It has enough wit to hold the attention of adults without losing sight of its main viewers: young children. I also really like the qualities that are emphasized in the movie: honesty, generosity, and kindness are lauded as characteristics of a strong person.

I highly recommend this movie, and if you have Disney Junior on your television but haven’t yet seen Sofia the First, be sure to find it and watch it (or record it on your DVR). We will most definitely be watching out for more episodes that we can access, and we’ll be keeping an eye on the Disney Store, which has an entire line of Sofia the First apparel and toys available.

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader will win bring Princess Sofia home through a copy of Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess!

Protect Your Children, Prevent Cyberbullying

April 5, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 6 Comments

Post brought to you by Linda Waters. Blogger who adores writing on mobile technologies and their use in everyday life. Marketing executive at http://www.mspy.com/iphone_spy.html, has huge interest in mobile tracking software.

cyberbullying Cyberbullying is an increasing problem nowadays, especially for children. This problem can have devastating effects on children as it creates anger, humiliation feeling and depression. As a consequence, many children have even committed suicide attempts. It is therefore necessary for the parents to keep a closer look at the activities of their kids so that they may be able to protect them from the issues like cyberbullying. Following are some of the most useful tips for parents that can help them prevent this problem:

Have a Discussion

It is very important to discuss the issue of cyberbullying and its adverse effects with your child. You should ask them what their view on this issue is and whether they have ever experienced this problem or have seen someone else experiencing it. This will help you have a clear idea if your child is a victim of this harmful phenomenon or not. It is very important to ensure your children that you would never blame them in case they are being cyberbullied. You should also tell that you are not going to take away their computer and smartphone privileges if they are facing such issue. Moreover, you should show that you are always there for them and that you will help by all means if someone tries to cyberbully your kids. In this way, you children will never conceal anything from you no matter how embarrassing it is for them.

Teach Them the Right Online Etiquette

Being a proactive parent, it is your responsibility to teach your child how to behave online. You should ask them not to share their personal information with anyone. Such information can include their full name, residential address, landline/cell phone number, passwords, sports team’s name or any other information that can be used by others to contact them offline. You should also teach them not to share their pictures or videos with anyone they don’t know as it may lead to various issues like cyberbullying or even sexting. Moreover, it is also important to tell them to ensure the security of their pictures and other personal data online so that the strangers may not abuse it in any way.

Use a Cell Phone Tracking Application

Imagine the situation: you have noticed that the behavior of your children changes for the worse, they become more irritable and look scared, still tell you nothing when you try to find out what happens.  So, you suspect that your kids are being bullied but have no idea how to get to the truth and you are desperate. In this case installing a reliable cell phone tracking app such as mSpy onto the smart phone device of your child can help. You will be able to keep an eye on various activities of your children in order to reveal the fact of cyberbullying. Such spy app allows you to track their phone calls, text messages, emails, multimedia messages, instant messages and social media activities etc in completely undetectable mode. All these activities are uploaded to your online account and you can view them anytime by logging on to it. In this way you can check all the channels that can be used by cyberbully to reach your child.

Note from Tiffany: I’m curious to hear if any parents out there have already experienced cyberbullying, and if so, if you have any tips to share with others.

What Will Your “Emotional Will” Be to Your Children?

April 4, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 3 Comments

This post is authored by and brought to you by my friends at PassedOn. What an amazing and unparalleled service this website provides. I’m truly blown away by it and I believe you will be, too.

PassedOn emotional will

When Marc Oparq, 32-year-old Dutch entrepreneur and father of two, boarded a plane with his wife toward a sunny vacation getaway, they were expecting a relaxing journey consisting of much-needed sleep and in-flight entertainment.

At thirty-five thousand feet, however, things quickly took a turn far from peaceful. Rattled out of his seat, Marco awoke to oxygen masks and carry on luggage crashing down from overhead. The plane had hit a nasty patch of turbulence, and the contents of the cabin were at the mercy of the wind’s violent uproar for what felt like an eternity.

Enduring several minutes of extreme disorientation, Marc was able to distill one clear thought amidst the chaos: his family – most notably his son Santi and daughter Indy (ages 3 and 5).

In that moment, Marc had a startling revelation: “If something were to happen to me today, how would my children possibly know how I felt about them? How will they discover what I have experienced watching them grow up? I have so many things to tell them, but they are too young to even know who I am right now.”

Thankfully the plane escaped the turbulence, and with his new-found idea in mind Marc created PassedOn (www.passed-on.com) – his answer to the unpredictability of life’s everyday deviations.

PassedOn is the world’s first multimedia “eWill” (Emotional Will) service. Through the simple creation of a free account, the user can effortlessly begin to save photos, videos, messages and more into a privatized eWill to be given one day to a Loved One. The user can choose to either release their eWills on a specified date or wait until their time has come.

emotional will passedon

To Marc and his wife, PassedOn is the perfect service for parents to document their most cherished moments spent with their children. It has allowed them to save and immortalize their interactions, recollections and sentiments raising their son and daughter. Day by day, they add their simple thoughts or observations to these eWills.

For a better illustration, take a look at the following video to see how Marc’s wife applies PassedOn to motherhood:

If you’re still unclear about the benefits and creative potential of using PassedOn, here are some ideas to get you started:

Ten Things Every Mom Must Share:

  • A before pregnancy photo and memory
  • A during pregnancy photo and how you felt during pregnancy
  • A memory about the day your child arrived
  • A video of either your child’s first steps and/or the first time saying “mom” or “dad”
  • Fun times with siblings
  • Your child in their “element” – dancing, singing, playing and just having fun
  • Artwork from school
  • Generational/extended family photo
  • Your own awkward preteen photo
  • Your child’s favorite song or story

So readers, tell us, what would you add to this list when you create your PassedOn account?  Maybe a cute photo of your child with their favorite stuffed animal or pet?  Or how about the time you went on a family vacation? The possibilities and memories are endless.

While there is no way to prepare for life’s uncertainties, with PassedOn you can make sure to let those who made a difference in your life know you will never forget them.

Start today and take control of your moments.

YumEarth Natural Candy: Gummy Bears, Sour Beans and Lollipops

April 4, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 2 Comments

Did anyone else notice that this year there was a big push to fill Easter baskets with non-candy items? Not a bad idea for families who are trying to live a life with a bit less sugar in it. And if you are a toy company, it was a GENIUS idea.

But I just couldn’t commit to doing a candy-free Easter basket. The thought of it got me downright sad. So here’s what I did, instead:

Easter basket full of YumEarth natural candy

Yes, that basket is LOADED DOWN with delicious treats, but they were all from YumEarth, a company that offers natural candy products without all the junk included. Here’s a list of some of the key things you may be watching out for and whether or not they are included in YumEarth products.

yumearth natural candy ingredients

The organic gummy bears were a huge hit with Darah, as gummy bears are one of her favorite special treats. And everyone in the house really loved the sour jelly beans which really packed some serious flavor! I really like that both of these options come in 10 pack bags that are perfect for lunches. Darah will be attending a day long program 2 times each week over the summer, and will need to pack a lunch. These will make for the perfect end to her meals!

But perhaps the greatest find of all is the organic lollipops. On Amazon right now, you can get a bag which has over 40 lollipops in it for just $6.00. They taste fantastic, too!

So while we didn’t take the candy-free route this Easter, we did find some products that were much better for us than the stuff we might otherwise have purchased. And we’ll be buying them again once we run out!

Have you ever tried YumEarth candy products? What did you think about them?

I received a complimentary product for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are strictly my own. This post may contain affiliate links.

Sneezing? Blurry Eyes? Best Buy Can Help With That, Too!

April 3, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 2 Comments

Are you sneezing like crazy in your neck of the woods? I’m happy to report that whenever I’m inside my house these days, I’m feeling really good. But as soon as I step outside, the itchy nose, watery eyes, scratchy throat, sneezing and wheezing fun begins, usually in just the time it takes for me to get from my house to my car, which is about 10 seconds.

Yuck!

allergies from goldenrod

photo credit: bill barber via photopin cc

So why is the inside of my house a safe place for this allergy-prone gal? Because I have an air purifier, also known as my very best friend throughout the spring and the fall.

What’s that, you say? You don’t own one? Because they are on the pricey side?

Oh my friends. Let me help you out RIGHT NOW!!!! Best Buy, a store you already know and love, actually carries air purifiers (did you know that?!) and they want to help get your allergies under control and make it more affordable to do so! Right now they have a special Friends and Family coupon offer that I get to extend to my entire Stuff Parents Need family. It will take 20% off the price of any air purification product sold at Best Buy between now and April 15th! It is only valid in stores, so make sure you get it on your calendar to go in the next week and get some much needed relief.

I know air purifiers aren’t exactly the most glamorous purchase on earth, but as someone who lived without one for years and is now experiencing life with one, I wish so much that I purchased one sooner. I could have saved hundreds on allergy medication, not to mention boxes of tissue and lots of time spent feeling icky!

If your mortal enemy looks like mine (goldenrod, pictured above, is my kryptonite), then now is the time to get the very best weapon in the fight against allergies. Best Buy is a fantastic place to buy an air purifier. Don’t forget the 20% off coupon!

I have been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card in exchange for my time sharing this helpful information with you. All thoughts (and allergy woes) are mine alone!

Dress Up Idea: Take it Outside

April 3, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 53 Comments

If you combined being outside with playing dress up, you’d have, in mind of my daughter, the most perfect day possible. Chloe’s Closet, a delightful television program that features a little girl who discovers magical new worlds while playing dress up, combines these two elements. Check out the newest video from the program called Chloe’s Closet: Outdoor Explorer. In the DVD, many fun things happen, including investigating the cause of a dry river, travel to the jungle, and making things grow.

Chloe’s Closet has provided fun entertainment for my daughter, but more importantly, it has inspired dress up ideas that get us playing outside.

Chloe's Closet Outdoor Explorer

Chloe’s Closet: Outdoor Explorer is a terrific video choice as we head into Spring and then Summer and need to stretch our imaginations for more creative play and dress up ideas. Amazon has it value priced at just $8.99 right now with free shipping for Prime members! You can also purchase the video at NCircleEntertainment.com

edit: this giveaway is now closed
