Character Development Book: Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns It’s Ok to Back Away

October 18, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

Darah is on her third book from the We Do Listen Foundation. she is a BIG fan of the main character, Howard B. Wigglebottom.

Howard is a wonderful little boy (er, bunny) who has some important lessons in life that he needs to learn (don’t we all?!).

In the latest book we received, Howard learns some great tactics to use to help control his anger and frustration.

I continue to be impressed by the extent to which Darah really listens to these stories and applies them to her life. We talk about Howard frequently whenever we are dealing with the issues that get raised in the books we own about him. A few days ago she was telling me bout one of her classmates getting upset and said, “He didn’t know that it is ok to back away.” The message is definitely sinking in with her!

I very highly recommend these books for character development in young children. They also come with discussion questions the adults can ask the kids in order to keep the lessons going beyond the story, itself.

The Howard B. Wigglebottom books are available for $6.00 each or you can get all 10 titles for just $50.00! These are hardcover books with amazing lessons. The price is absolutely unbeatable!

I received a complimentary product for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back (GIVEAWAY!!!)

March 20, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · 55 Comments

Darah has really become quite fond of a particular story book character, lately. His name is Howard B. Wigglebottom, and all of his stories contain really relevant lessons for younger children. We have been reading Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen for a few months, now. It has inspired some great conversation about just how important it is to pay attention.

Our latest book from the series is Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back: A Tale About Telling the Truth. Recently we have noticed that Darah has discovered that there is, in fact, an alternative to telling the truth. So this book has been very timely for us, as it has given us a great tool to start conversations with her about how tough it can be on everyone when the truth isn’t told.

Howard B. Wigglebottom is the product of the We Do Listen Foundation, which offers a wealth of FREE resources for parents and teachers. Many of the books that are available have free animated versions online that you can enjoy right now! Here’s the animated version of the book I reviewed today! https://www.wedolisten.org/media/

There are also songs, games, lessons and posters. Additionally, each hardcover book comes with great ideas for discussion at the end of the book. I think this is an impressive foundation with excellent resources. Hardcover copies of the books retail for $15 and can be purchased most everywhere books are sold in the U.S. and Canada. They are currently on sale on the website for $6 each or $50 for a set of all ten books (US only). What a deal!

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader will win a copy of Howard B. Wigglebottom (your choice of title!).

Howard B. Wigglebottom Books Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

December 28, 2011 · by Tiffany Merritt · 75 Comments

I’ve come across a very interesting line of books that promotes effective listening, communication, and and overall sense of inner peace for children. They are put out by a non-profit organization called We Do Listen, and they star a funny bunny named Howard B. Wigglebottom. In each story, Howard learns some very important lessons, and in the process helps your kids learn them, as well!

We have been reading Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen. The title is pretty self-explanatory! What I especially like about this book is that at the end of the story, there is a review section that goes over some basic strategies for developing your listening skills. There is also a section at the end that gives parents questions that can be asked along with every page in the book. That really helps expand the opportunities for learning and discussion! I thought that was a great idea and was really pleased to see it.

We Do Listenhas a wonderful assortment of books for various life lessons. They also have animated versions of their books that are ABSOLUTELY FREE on their website! And they have songs and other activities. Truly, this website is an excellent resource for parents and kids, and I want to strongly encourage you to check it out!

Buy it!: Howard B. Wigglebottom books are available at HUGE discounts right now. The book we reviewed is marked down to $6.00, and you can purchase all 10 of their books for just $50.00. What a steal!!!

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader will win the book of your choice from the Howard B. Wigglebottom line!
