I live in one of the worst places in the entire nation for pollen counts. Evidently Chattanooga is like Club Med for pollen. This is where pretty much all of it comes to PARTY HARD.
Ok, I know not ALL of it is here. There are a lot of you out there in other parts of the country sniffling right along with me, and just trying to make it through Spring without your nose or your eyes being permanently damaged from all the tissue applications they are receiving.
I turned to my growing collection of oils to see if I could find something that would support my lungs and sinuses and encourage proper nasal function. I learned about a trio that many people apply topically. It consists of 2 drops each of lemon, peppermint and lavender, along with carrier oil, like almond oil or coconut oil
.
This idea seemed promising, but it doesn’t help any of my other family members, who might also benefit from the health benefits the oils may offer.
That’s when the lightbulb went off for me. What if I diffuse those oils every morning? When you diffuse oils, everyone in the room reaps the benefits. And I have found that, indeed, this method is working out just great for my family. I diffuse the trio every morning while we are having breakfast and getting ready for the day, and it seems to really make a difference with our wellness and our nasal functions throughout the day! I have noticed that the effects start to wear off by late afternoon, and that’s when I just swipe one drop of lavender across the bridge of the nose of anyone who seems stuffy. That seems to straighten things out until the next morning! 🙂
Looking for Support?
I have all the info for you about how to get started with essential oils whenever you are ready to look into it. If your budget allows for it, I would recommend going for the premium starter kit, as it comes with all of the oils for the trio (plus 8 more!) and the diffuser. By ordering a kit, you become a wholesale member, which simply means that you can order products at a discount from here on out (but you aren’t under any obligation to order anything else, if you don’t want to!). If you aren’t ready to become a wholesale member just yet, I can also place an order for you using my own wholesale membership so you can still get the oils you want to try at a discount. I love to share my perks with others! 🙂
What are you currently using to support wellness throughout the seasons? I’d love to hear what, if anything, is working for you!

i use these three oils for allergies as well!!! In a glass of water, I put one drop of lemon, 2 toothpick-fuls of peppermint, and one toothpick-ful of lavender (I stick a toothpick in a the oil instead of just a drop and swirl it around in the water). I mix it up and drink a glass in the morning, and now I’m drinking another one at night since we’re really in full swing of allergy season
Do you have a diffuser that you recommend? There seems to be a really wide range of options. I’d love to give this a try.
Yes! Young Living just put out a brand new design of diffuser that is at the top of my wish list! It’s called the aroma diffuser, and it can diffuse the essential oil particles up to 30 square meters (the diffuser I have, which is still AWESOME, only does 10 square meters). I can only personally recommend the YL diffusers, as I know that they are specially formulated to break up the essential oils particles into such tiny particles that they stay suspended in the air for several hours, increasing the benefits to people in the area where the diffuser is running. Let me know if you’d like help with ordering information!
I have those oils. YAY! Where do you buy the roller balls. I’m afraid of having my daughter ingest them, but i’d love to combine them in a roller for easy application. I need to pick up some distilled water so I can diffuse them too.
I know amazon has some (search for roll-on glass vials or something like that…the glass part is really important…oils will eat plastic!). If you just want the roller caps, themselves, I know YL sells them and I can get a price quote for you (warning: their shipping charges are sky high…Amazon Prime has spoiled me, I guess?).
Abundanthealth also has them. And as really quick relief i put 1 drop of peppermint on my thump hold to the roof if my mouth and in 10 mins tops my eyes aren’t watery or swollen.
Actually, for diffusing you want to use tap water. Distilled water doesn’t have the minerals necessary for diffusion.
We have serious allergy issues here. Love these tips. Pinning!! I think I even have some of these oils on hand.
Thanks for linking up at Wordy Wednesday! 🙂
You most definitely need to try this! 🙂
Hello! My husband has TERRIBLE allergies and I made him a veggie capsule of this blend this morning…. (Only I had read 5 drops of each – and no carrier oil). I noticed that you posted this in April… being that it’s October now may I ask how this did for you and your family? No more Zyrtec, I’m hoping? 🙂
Ha- Oops! It’s November now, not October… haha
My family continues to use this regimen. We haven’t turned to OTC allergy relief since starting! 🙂
I was wondering what would work best for the itchy throat I get this time of year. That’s usually my only or worst symptom. And I feel bad coughing all night and waking Eric up. Thanks in advance!
Great question! I would recommend, if you are fine with ingesting, thieves tea. Take a cup of hot water and add 1 drop of thieves, 3 drops of lemon, and as much honey as you like. Drink this every handful of hours until you feel relief. Thieves is GREAT at killing germs! Thieves and lemon can be purchased individually, but they both come in the premium starter kit, fyi. I hope that helps!
I had no idea that you could use oils to combat allergies!
Thank you for stopping by the Thoughtful Spot Weekly Blog Hop this week. We hope to see you drop by our neck of the woods next week!
We use EO’s too but a cheaper brand. YL just breaks our budget, lol. Thanks for the tips and ideas. Thanks for sharing during the Thoughtful Spot Blog Hop!
Thanks for the tips of alternative pollen relief. Thanks for linking up to Sweet and Savoury Sunday, stop by and link up again. Have a great weekend!!
Zyrtec can also increase the likelihood of heart palpitations, so switching to an alternative relief system is a good idea for those with heart conditions! I will try this out, thank you!
Oh wow. I didn’t know that! All the more reason to switch! I hope it helps you out just as it is helping my crew!
That’s fascinating. I, too, live in a very bad area for allergies. Fortunately, I have found Zyrtec at BJ’s Warehouse club…..$14.99, less $3 coupon for 300 tabs. Phew!
Great find! But for me, I find that zyrtec makes me a little loopy…do you find that to be the case for you, or do you feel normal when you are on it?
Pollen is EVERYWHERE here. I took some Benadryl this morning and it took me a minute to realize why my head was so fuzzy – so much I had to stop the blogging. (I wasn’t planning on driving anywhere all day, so…) I’ll have to check these out!
Thanks for linking up with Spread the Love!
Oh yes, definitely! I had the exact same reaction to OTC medications. It took away the alergy pain, but left me with a new set of problems (drowsiness!). If I can help you in any way with your essential oils exploration, don’t hesitate to ask. I get a lot of joy out of helping people discover solutions for their families. 🙂
I take allergy medicine all year around, but I suffer the most in the spring and fall. Claritin and a Neti Pot work reasonably well for me, but essential oils sounds like a great avenue to explore.
For sure. I’m all about the Neti Pot, too! Please let me know if I can help you with anything related to essential oils. I love researching stuff for people, as it helps me learn, too! 🙂
How do you put them in a capsule? I have horrible year round allergies and takes lots of meds.
Great question! I’m actually just learning how to do this, myself, and will be doing a write up on how to create capsules. The short answer is that you need to purchase size 00 vegetable capsules online (Amazon has them) and also purchase a glass bottle with a glass dropper for pre-mixing your oils and your carrier oils together, and then using the dropper to put the mixture in capsule form. I think most people will make maybe 2 weeks of capsules in one sitting to save some time and not have to make them every day. I hope that helps!
You need to freeze the capsules if you are making more than one each day. The oils will eat thru the veg capsules if not taken immediately.
What a great post. I’m starting to think I need to get into essential oils… (I’m always late to the game!)
Thanks for this from a fellow allergy sufferer!
Georgia
I’m so happy the post helped you, Georgia! Please let me know if I can be helpful at all in your journey. I’m new to essential oils, myself, so I know the feeling! But they have been such a help for things like allergies that I just couldn’t keep it to myself. 🙂
Great minds think alike! I JUST posted on this earlier this week. It really does work wonders!

Very cool! I think lots of folks are trying to figure out some allergy relief right about now! So glad you also have the oils and that they work for you. They are awesome!
I take the oils in a capsule 2 times a day and it works great for me! I was using it topically for a few months last year and found that taking them internally works best for me. I have allergy issues all year long. If I need an extra help I diffuse some lavender during the day or at night while I sleep. I’ve also found local honey to be helpful too.
So glad these are working for you! I think experimenting to figure out what works best for you is the way to go, for sure. Love the idea of diffusing the lavender for a little boost, too! 🙂
I already have those three oils, so I’m going to give it a try! My hubby usually gets really icky with the pollen and so does Libbie (and then it aggravates her asthma).
Oh yes, definitely try it! Do you have a diffuser? I know some folks just use a humidifer to get the oils in the air, too.
