Best Bath Toy Storage at a Bargain Price (Giveaway!)

March 15, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 101 Comments

At our baby shower for Darah, we received a popular brand bath toy storage scoop that was on our registry. It was adorable (looked like a ladybug!). We installed it as soon as we moved her from the infant bath to the big bath tub.

It lasted 2 weeks before it stopped working. We couldn’t get it to stay attached to the bathroom wall, no matter what we tried. And internet research revealed that lots and lots of other people were reporting the same problem.

What a waste…

So, we’ve had a bit of a bath toy storage problem over the past few years. But we really didn’t know what to do! When Munchkin asked if I’d like to check out their bath scoop, I was skeptical. We’d been down that road with another company. But I decided to give them a chance and to see if they had a better design.

And they do!!!! Our Munchkin Bath Scoop has been going strong for over a month with absolutely no signs of trouble! It is staying put!!!

best bath toy storage

It holds a good amount of toys. It is easy for my 3 1/2 year old to take off the wall and put back on, and it has an attractive design. It also has holes for drainage to help keep the toys inside from molding. And here’s the best part: the price! Right now the Munchkin Bath Toy Scoop is on sale at Amazon for under $9!!! . That is such a bargain as compared to the old scoop we had which cost around $25!

Which would you choose? The bargain that actually does what it is supposed to do, or the overpriced scoop that quits on you?

Floating BathBlocks: SO Awesome!!! Review and GIVEAWAY!!

December 14, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · 75 Comments

Isn’t bath time with kids so much fun?

Apart from getting soaking wet as they splash around, of course.

Darah’s at an age where she will take 2 or 3 baths a day if we will let her. All so she can play with her mermaids and other tub toys. It is a great source of entertainment for her. And while it gives us the opportunity to get a bit of work done while she entertains herself int he tub, the truth is that I have so much fun playing with her that I often just sit beside the tub and play right along!

But a few days ago I got to play with her newest tub toys BEFORE she did. And yeah, I totally loved it.

There’s a product on the market called BathBlocks, and I can’t think of a single kid, boy or girl, who wouldn’t absolutely love these. These are a “must have” for your gift closet, for sure!

I put together the 13 pc Ball Run set. and snapped some shots. Check them out!

With these blocks you can make a fun obstacle course for a ball to run through. I’m not going to tell you how many times I let the ball go through the course before I remembered that I needed to take some photos. It was SEVERAL. 🙂

The blocks come with a floating platform, but they also float on their own. But it gets so much better! If you put some soapy water on them, they do this:

Oh yes, they stick to the walls! Ha ha!!! I would have LOVED these when I was a kid. Good thing I have a child of my own now who will let me take a turn with them!

What I love about these blocks is that they are perfectly designed for tub time, and that they also encourage creative play. The obstacle course can be set up many different ways, or your child might just use the blocks as floating islands for a different game.

And you never know what toys will especially appeal to kids. Darah is completely smitten by the ball that comes in the set. I have no idea why, but she has slept with it for the past 3 nights. Kids are so weird…

You may be wondering if these are floating pieces of mildew just waiting to happen. They are actually made from bacteria and midew resistant EVA, and they are also free of phthalates and PVC. This company put a lot of thought into what would be the most fun and the most safe for kids. Gotta love that!

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader will win the same set of BathBlocks as the one I reviewed. Lucky you!

Rub-a-Dub-Dub, Eco-Friendly Toys in the Tub! Sprig Toys Review

February 9, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · 1 Comment

Today I want to introduce you to a fabulous toy company based right here in the USA! It’s called Sprig Toys and they make eco-friendly and fun toys that are built to last and that inspire creative play. I really love the story of how this company got started. It is the brain child of 3 toy designers who had been having fantastic success with their toy designs. But when they toured the plants where their ideas were being turned into toys, they realized that what they had created was having very harmful effects on the environment surrounding the plant. This was such a shock to them, and they decided to change the way they were designing toys altogether! I am always impressed when someone sees a real problem with something (even if it is working in terms of profits being made) and decides to do something about it!

Sprig Toys currently offers four different groupings of toys, including the following:

Adventure Series: a world full of vehicles, characters, and animals to take your child on a fun filled expedition on both land and water!

Sprig Hollow: a cast of wacky bee and butterfly characters on adventures in the sand, garden, or pool. Includes playsets, vehicles, and outdoor tools all in one!

Eco-Trucks: include a loader and a dump truck for playing in the sand!

Storybuilders: classic tales of princesses and working hard on Old Mac’s Farm. These playsets allow children to build fast and tell their own stories. Our Storybulding classics books are great on the go, a complete building playset and classic storybook all in one!

We have been playing with the Dolphin Explorer Boat  from the Adventure Series, and it is a HUGE hit, especially at bath time! I have absolutely no worries about harming the toys by having them in the tub, because they are made from a product this company calls Sprigwood. It’s a bio-composite material made from bits of reclaimed wood and recycled plastic. It is completely safe for children. It also gets pigmented during the production process, so the toys, themselves have not been painted with anything. Having your child play with these toys, get them wet, and even chew on them will give no cause for concern! I can also tell that these toys are going to hold up well to repeated exposure to water and rough play (Darah is a site in the bathtub…she plays so hard in there!). As her other toys bend and break, Sprig toys are going to hang tight with her, likely until she outgrows them!

Overall, we are extremely impressed with Sprig Toys and would highly recommend them to anyone. The set we reviewed retails for $24.99 and can be purchased here or you can find your nearest retailer here.

Boon Creatures Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

November 26, 2011 · by Tiffany Merritt · 95 Comments

Darah takes a bath almost every single night. It’s an important part of our nighttime ritual, and gives her one last chance to get out some energy before we put on jammies, read stories and then go to bed. She loves to play in the tub, especially with her daddy, who takes the lead for bath times so that I can get a bit of work done.

Lately Tim (yes, Tim) has been complaining that Darah needs some new bath toys. I think he has exhausted his imagination for what her current collection can do. Admittedly, she’s not had anything new on the scene in about a year, so the request was fair.

I had been looking around for something cute, fun and not inclined to hold on to water and grow mold (a tall order when it comes to tub toys), and then I was contacted by one of my very favorite companies, Boon, to see if I wanted to check out their tub toys, Boon Creatures. Oh heck yes!

Boon Creatures are characters you might find in the sea, and they have interchangeable tops and bottoms so that you can create any combination of underwater animal that you wish. This promotes imaginative play. Darah likes to make a “crab-whale!” They also have holes in the tops of their heads that make pouring water extra fun. Darah especially likes to watch the water run out of these. They are flexible, so if Darah sits on a toy on accident, she won’t be injured. They are also durable, and are withstanding her play (and the daily baths) beautifully. I really love that they dry out quickly and don’t become water repositories, which leads to all sorts of mold issues (my biggest complaint with most of her tub toys). These retail for $13.99 and are a great buy, as I can tell that they will still be going strong by the time baby #2 is ready to play in the tub. Hooray for tub toys that last!

Win it!: One lucky Stuff Parents Need reader is going to win a set of Boon Creatures! Rub a dub!
