Surprise, Surprise! I Actually Liked the “Skincare” Beauty Box 5!

May 15, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · 1 Comment

Complimentary box provided for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I only promote what I love!

Friends, if you haven’t seen my previous Beauty Box 5 reviews, you may want to take a moment to check them out. I always give you brutal honest truth about what I think about the offerings in this highly affordable beauty subscription box. Sometimes I’m super impressed, and sometimes I’m totally underwhelmed. But I still think this box, which is just $8.75/box when you go for the annual subscription, is well worth the risk you take by sometimes getting a dud or a sample in your box that you didn’t really want.

Here’s what I’ve reviewed so far (lots of video unboxings, so be sure to check them out if that’s your thing!).

Based on my previous reviews and my particular likes and dislikes, when I heard that the May box was all about skin care I was pretty much certain that I was going to hate it. But the joke’s on me, friends, because this actually turned out to be one of my favorites! Check out my video below and let me know which item on your list would be your favorite (also? Someone please clue me in on how to actually take care of your cuticles. I’m totally lost!).

The Video in Which I Pitch a Fit Over Lip Products

April 17, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · 1 Comment

Products provided for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own (which is probably obvious…).

Y’all want to see me get madder than a wet hen? And over something that is probably not worthy of my level of outrage? Thought so! Check out my review of the April 2015 Beauty Box 5 offerings in the video below:

You guys, I honestly do love this subscription box. It’s like a fun, affordable little surprise in the mail every month. You can order month-by-month, but the best deal is the year subscription for $99, which equals just $8.75/box shipped to you. You can’t expect to love everything, all the time, but I think that’s understandable. And besides, if you don’t like something you can always post a YouTube video where you pitch a fit about your over-abundance of lip products and sound like a brat! 😉

March Beauty Box 5 Review: 3 out of 5 Stars

March 20, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · 3 Comments

Yesterday my March Beauty Box 5 showed up, and I confess that I was stalking the mail man to get my hands on it. That’s a pretty good sign that I like this subscription service! If you are new to Beauty Box 5, I think this is one of the very most affordable beauty subscription boxes out there (as low as $8.75/month if you buy a year subscription!). You get a combination of full size and deluxe sample size products (always 5, total) and you also get a combination of drugstore-type brands and higher end brands. I like it because it reflects my budget and the way I shop for beauty products…I like lower prices if I can get them, but I’m not afraid to splurge if something is really worth it!

March Beauty Box 5

So the theme for this month was Hustle, and it was a theme that resonated with me as a “mompreneur” (I’m not so sure I like that term…can’t decide…). Anyway, I liked the idea of having some excellent skin care products as your base and a few bold beauty products with easy application to get out out the door fast and looking great.

Here’s what you’ll find in this month’s box:

march beauty box 5 review 1

And let’s break down the contents, starting with what I didn’t love.

1. Eslor Introductory Collection

If you’ve read my other reviews, this is no surprise. I never like getting skin care because I stand by my previous statements that deluxe samples of skin care products don’t last long enough for you to determine if you actually like the product. It’s just a principle matter with me. I’ll always give a thumbs down to the skincare stuff. That’s just me!

2. Elite Therapeutics Rosemary Eucalyptus Body Cream

march beauty box 5 review 3

For a body cream, I thought the sample size was a bit too small, personally. Also? The smell that they claim to be “divine” is…not so much. It is a very mild scent, but not at all pleasant. I blame this, of course, on the fact that I have  fierce essential oils collection and the oils I have are unmatched in quality. I think my nose has become an essential oil snob!

3. Scandalous Thickening Mascara by Nanacoco

march beauty box 5 review 4

I was pleased to see this product because I use mascara pretty much every day. This is a drug store quality product, retailing for $4.99. And it’s not the best mascara I’ve ever tried. But certainly not the worst. I think the formula is on the thin side and the wand is lacking. I have to apply several coats for my lashes to look thicker and longer. But I do eventually get there. Don’t love it, but I like it!

4. Laugh Out Loud Lip Gloss by Nanacoco

march beauty box 5 review 2

I was surprised to see 2 products from the same brand in this box. I’d personally prefer to get all different brands, if possible. Looks like the colors people receive for this item will vary. My color is desert trip. It veers a tad orange for me, but it blends well with other colors and I love the high level of shine.

5. Styli-Style Line & Seal Twist Mechanical Eye Liner

This was the big winner for me. Again, the colors receive will vary. I got raisin, which is a deep purply-brown and I super duper love it. The liner is creamy, goes on smooth, and doesn’t need to be sharpened. It’s a perfect shade for spring and I can also see it pairing well with certain eye shadow shades in the fall. LOVE it!

I’m hoping to see a lip liner in the mix in the next month or two from Beauty Box. That’s something I haven’t yet received. If you haven’t tried Beauty Box 5 yet, you can get it for $12/box if you go month to month, but I say spring for the whole year for just $99 because that makes each box $8.75, and even if you only like 2 out the 5 products each month, in that case it’s likely still worth the money. But I think most months you’ll like at least 3 out of 5 things, like me! Also, if you click through my link and use my referral code (HALFOFF) you’ll save 50% on your first box!

February Beauty Box 5: I Love the Improvements!

February 21, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · 1 Comment

Complimentary box provided for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, as always.

Hello sweet friends! I hope you are having a lovely weekend. It is absolutely dreary here in Chattanooga, which makes it the perfect day to stay inside and play with my makeup a bit. 🙂

Today I’m showcasing the contents of the February 2015 Beauty Box 5 subscription box. This is a box that I highly recommend because of it’s budget-friendly price tag (as low as $8.75/month!) and for its really nice selection of offerings at several price points. Basically, this box contains products that I would actually buy as well as a few surprises from brands that are totally new to me.

January’s Beauty Box 5: Much Better!

January 20, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · 3 Comments

Complimentary box provided for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Affiliate links included.

If you aren’t yet familiar with Beauty Box 5, it is a very affordable beauty subscription service, with a fun mix of what I could call “drugstore” and higher end beauty products. Some things are full size, and some things are deluxe samples. It’s a good mix for the price, which is $12 if you go month by month, or if you go for a year at once, it’s $99, which makes each box $8.75.

I have reviewed a few different boxes, and most of them I liked, though December was my biggest disappointment. You can check out previous reviews below:

Lush Decor (at Penny-Pincher Prices!) ($200 GIVEAWAY!!!)

January 18, 2015 · by Tiffany Merritt · 268 Comments

Thanks to Lush Decor for sponsoring today’s amazing giveaway. All thoughts and opinions are my own, as always.

Head’s up all you folks out there who might be looking for some fresh new home decor textiles. I’ve got a site you simply MUST see because the products are very posh and the pricetags are more suited to those of us on a budget (like me!).

lush decor logo

Take a moment to look around at LushDecor.com. This is a young company with employees who are super excited to bring “inspired” designs to the public at prices that are reasonable. I have seen SO many things on this site that remind me of picturesque rooms I have pinned on Pinterest or seen in magazines but that I knew before even looking that I could never afford. This stuff I actually CAN afford, so I, for one, am thrilled to have learned about the site (so thrilled, in fact, that I’ve already made a purchase!).

Bedding

bedding

I ordered this Lux 6-piece bedding set a few days ago and can’t wait for it to show up! The price point was sort of insane for what you get, and I thought it would be such a breath of fresh air in my room come March or April when spring is in the air and I’m ready to lighten the mood in the house.

They have TONS of other beautiful sets, too (even items for youth!). So be sure to check it out.

Shower Curtains

shower curtain

And just this morning I decided to go for this pretty Esme shower curtain. Our old one is torn and it’s time to replace it. The look of this one is so pretty and the price is DEFINITELY right! 🙂

Window Treatments

window treatments

There are so many gorgeous window treatments on this site, but my personal favorite is the Royal Glimmer Window Curtain. These are actually black out panels, which is very useful. They also just look like something you would spend $90/panel for. Loving that $30 price tag!

Additionally, don’t forget to look through the clearance section of the website. It is LOADED with gorgeous pieces and the mark downs are generous. This is such a fun place to not only window shop, but also to actually shop, because the prices are so good!

Check Out with Amazon

I thought this was a super cool feature of LushDecor.com: you can check out on their website using your Amazon credentials! Most people already shop through Amazon, so this makes it extra convenient. It also provides some peace of mind because in today’s world it can be a little scary to shop at a new-to-you website for the first time. No need to worry with this site, friends! Your financial information gets handled all through the Amazon system. Love it!

Coupon!

Once you’ve looked around on the Lush Decor website, I think you’ll agree with me that their prices are absolutely amazing, already. But just for fun, let’s knock off another 10%! Use coupon code PARENT01 at checkout, and you’ll save an additional 10% on your purchase! Woo hoo!

Win it!:

One VERY lucky Stuff Parents Need reader is going to win a $200 gift card to Lush Decor!

Unboxing of the December 2014 Beauty Box 5

December 28, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 2 Comments

Products provided for review purposes. Affiliate links included. All thoughts and opinions are my own, as always.

Well, friends, I guess you can’t please everyone. This month’s Beauty Box 5 selection left me feeling a bit glum. Check out my video review below to see the contents, the price value for each included item, and my thoughts on the contents.

What do you think, friends? Would you have been disappointed with this selection or is it just me?

Remember, the box is $12 for an individual box, but you can get 12 boxes (1 each month for a year) for $99, which is a great deal! That makes it just $8.25/box, and I think that’s a fair price for a little bit of beauty fun in your mail each month. I still like the box even though this box didn’t wow me.

A Flash Sale, a Great Giveaway, and Gorgeous Jewelry!

December 15, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 111 Comments

Product samples provided for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own, as always.

Friends I wanted to let you know about a killer flash sale happening this week at Isabelle Grace Jewelry. If you aren’t familiar with the brand, you need to take a moment to look around over there! Isabelle Grace is known for elegant, simple, unique and customizable pieces. I own a few of their customized designs (a necklace I love to wear and bracelet for little Layah). I’ve always been impressed with the quality  of their pieces. I love that they are not mass produced, but are made my artisans in the U.S.

For the past 2 months, I have been wearing a pair of earrings from the brand, and they are my new favorites, most definitely.

isabelle grace earrings

Arent’ they pretty? These are the Beatrice Drop Earrings, and I’m highlighting them today not simply so that I can show off my gorgeous ear bling. These earrings happen to be on special sale this week, with the price dropping from $88 all the way down to $32 (that’s a 63% drop!). All you need to do to get this great deal is enter JUST4ME as the coupon code at checkout. Score!!!! As someone who owns these earrings, and as someone who doesn’t spend a ton of money on lots of jewelry, I think these are a GREAT buy at $32. You’ll get a lot of wear out of them because they pretty much make every outfit look more polished!

This flash sale is part of the JUST4ME Mondays program that Isabelle Grace offers to their newsletter subscribers. That means that next Monday there’s going to be another really awesome flash sale. The way to make sure you don’t miss it is to sign up for their newsletter!

Giveaway!!

One of you is going to win a pair of Beatrice Drop Earrings. What a perfect gift to give to a girlfriend or even to yourself!

Beauty Box 5: Still a Shockingly Affordable Beauty Subscription Box

November 29, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 6 Comments

Products provided for review purposes, and affiliate links included. All thoughts and opinions are my own, as always.

A few months back I wrote a Beauty Box 5 review (go check it out if you missed it because I did a fun video unboxing!). I just received November’s box and I wanted to show it to you. As noted previously, I’m really drawn to this particular subscription box because the contents are a fun mix of higher end, boutique and mass market (drugstore) brands, and that’s exactly what my makeup and beauty purchases are: a mixture. I can’t afford to only buy from places like Sephora, but I also know that sometimes the higher prices can be justified. But it can be tough to roll the dice on a higher-end product if you don’t know for sure; Beauty Box 5 gives you the opportunity to try things out so you can see how you like them!

Ok, so here’s the November box.

beauty box 5 november 2

Based on the offered retail values, I estimate the worth of the contents to be about $14.50, as 3 of the 5 items included are sample sizes.

Here’s what came in the kit, ranked in the order from least exciting to most exciting (for me, personally).

1. DenTek Floss Picks and Case. For me, the case is a waste of plastic as are the picks. Just use some floss, people.

2. Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash. I actually like Dove, but I prefer to use soap over body wash, so I wasn’t thrilled to see this.

3. Laura Ashley Body Butter. Ok, in some ways I was VERY excited to see this. I grew up absolutely adoring a particular fragrance at Laura Ashley, so this took me back. But I found the scent choice (Italian Lemon) to be very odd for November. I don’t want to smell like lemons this time of year, so I’ll be setting this aside until May or June.

4. HASK Macadamia Revitalizing Shine Oil. Super pumped to see this as I have very dry hair. I’m hoping the bottle might actually have more than one application in it.

5. Nicka K New York Eye light Crayon. The color is rich and I love that there is a sharpener in the bottom of the crayon so you can double this eyeshadow as an eyeliner if you want. Great product and a great price (it retails for just $4.49!).

beauty box 5 november 1

Beauty Box 5 is available for $12/month, but I really think you should go all in and get the yearly subscription, as it’s just $99 (and that includes free shipping!), bringing your monthly box cost down quite a bit to just $8.25. I think that’s a pretty affordable little indulgence for you to have every month, and a really fun way to try something new.
