I have had the privilege of listening to some really fun family music over the last 6 months. There are so many wonderful bands out there who are making albums for kids, but who also keep the parents who have to listen to them in mind. I have had a blast discovering new groups and new songs that I love, and that as Darah grows a little bit, will make her giggle.

Today I’m bringing you another album. Justin Roberts has just released his seventh album, called,Jungle Gym , and it captures the magic and wonder of childhood like nothing else I have heard.

The songs are so fun, and the sound is ever so slightly reminiscent of some classic Weezer, in my opinion. I’ve been rocking out to this cd a lot lately. It has brought back some of the excitement that I used to feel for things like snow days, playing with a cardboard box (the possibilities were ENDLESS!), and of course, the day that the parachute came out during p.e., which was hands-down my favorite day. I especially loved Never Getting Lost, which is such a sweet song about getting lost (and then found) at the mall. It is just so innocent, and it totally nails what a child feels when s/he get lost in a store, and what a relief you feel when your mom finds you. Now, of course, I can think about this scenario from the perspective of a mom, and I just cried the whole way through that song!

There are so many fun things about being part of the blogging world. Twinkletoes Diapers: Discovering AI2 Diapers

Bloggy friends, I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce you to another fabulous mom who has developed a great business that helps her stay at home with her children. Meet Vanessa, the owner of Etsy shop Twinkletoes Diapers. Vanessa specializes in AI2 diapers, and she also has a nice variety of diaper covers for those of you who prefer fitted diapers.

Vanessa sent me the cutest AI2 diaper ever, because it is made from Supergirl fabric! When the diaper arrived, it came with really helpful instructions for prepping the diaper before its first use (for those of you who are new to cloth diapering, the vast majority of cloth diapers have to be washed anywhere from 1-8 times before they are fully absorbent, and the number of times depends on the material that is used). For Twinkletoes diapers, the liner only needed to be washed once, and the inserts need to be washed 4-6 times. I’m impatient, so I only washed them 4 times before I put them to use!

After reading over Vanessa’s instructions for prepping, usual washing and general use, I realized that this diaper offers something distinct from the other AIO diapers I use. The shell can be reused all day long, provided that the elastic isn’t soiled. You just unsnap the insert and wipe down the shell, and then snap in a clean insert and put it back on the baby. I think that’s really cool! Her diapers come with one insert, and you can purchase additional ones if you’d like to use the shell more than once before washing it. They are only $3.00. This is a terrific way to essentially turn one diaper into two or even 3 for very little extra money!

Twinkletoes diaper inserts are made with some really cool fabrics: bamboo fleece, suede cloth and ZORB…this fabric is new to me, but it rocks! Zorb soaks up wetness faster than any other material out there. I love it! I have found AI2 diapers to not be as effective for Darah during nap times, because she sleeps on her side and the inserts aren’t quite able to keep her dry at that particular angle. But during the day, they work like a charm and I would highly recommend them. If your baby sleeps on his/her back or tummy, I can’t imagine that you’ll have any leak problems during nap times with these diapers.

BabyLegs Are the Perfect Choice for Crawling Babies

I don’t think I’ve told you all that Darah is officially crawling. She started at the end of May, and true to what everyone says, once they are crawling, you have to step up your game even more. She gets faster every day, and she has a keen eye for small things on the floor. It is amazing how quickly she can locate them and get them into her mouth!

We have area rugs down in some of our rooms, but the vast majority of our floor space is just hard wood. While this is pretty to look at, it is not very much fun to crawl on, I’m afraid. Fortunately, we have several pair of BabyLegs and those are doing a nice job of keeping her knees from getting sore!

Most of you probably already know what BabyLegs are, but if you don’t, I’m excited to have the chance to tell you. They are awesome! Since you may want a little more info beyond, “they are awesome!,” though, I’ll elaborate further. By telling you how BabyLegs got started, you’ll quickly realize what they are. This is another amazing company that is the brainchild of a clever mom! From their site, “In April of 2005, Nicole Donnelly was a mom in a bind. Her daughter had a diaper rash that just wouldn’t quit and she needed some diaper-free time. These leg warmers not only kept her daughter warm, but also protected her from the elements, made diaper changing and potty training easier, and protected her soft knees while crawling. In my experience, BabyLegs are the perfect alternative to pants when your baby is learning how to crawl. They offer the best options for range of motion while still providing some sort of coverage. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE how easy it is to change a diaper when Darah is in her BabyLegs. All I have to do is unsnap her onesie and then re-snap it when I’m done. Since she has discovered how to move herself around, she now tries to crawl away even during diaper changes, so the faster I can get her in and out of the diaper changing pit before she zooms back off, the better!

I love the patterns and colors that BabyLegs offers…there are so many wonderful ways to turn any outfit into something unique and fun. A few of the leg warmers on my wish list for Darah are the ones in yellow, popcicle and for the fall, maple!

Here’s a cool use for BabyLegs legwarmers that you may not be aware of. Did you know that you can use the baby legs as a way to add long sleeves to a shirt? I think this is a genius idea! Darah will likely have several short sleeve shirts that she’ll be able to use well into fall thanks to BabyLegs! You can also use BabyLegs legwarmers under a dress or skirt. Check out some of the ways that people have put BabyLegs to use well into the toddler years, too!

I love that their tights are made with some extra room to accommodate diapers (even cloth diapers!). The socks are also just too cute, and now that Darah’s crawling and wanting to practice walking, we are once again trying to get her used to socks. Do you ever get really obsessed with one particular thing that you want to improve in our house? I do from time to time, and I find myself spending hours searching the web for solutions to whatever problem we might be having with our house (sometimes the problem is real, and sometimes calling it a “problem” all just depends on your perspective).

One thing that recently caught my attention (and not in a good way) is a light that we have in our inside entryway. It looks like a lamp post, and to me, it is strange to put something that looks like a lamp post inside (maybe I’m in the minority on this one? Thoughts?). Baby/Toddler Mealtime Makeover (GIVEAWAY!!!)

Feeding Darah is so much fun. She has hit that age where there are very few things that she cannot try. We have been lucky so far to not run into any allergy problems, so almost every day brings some new food to try. And she certainly does like to try several different things. Gone are the days when she would happily eat just one thing for dinner. I’ve pretty much always fed her more than one thing at a time, but I used to just mix up her food cubes together to make one pile of mush. I know, that’s kind of gross, but she used to happily eat it.

Notice that I said, “USED TO.” This is no longer acceptable. She wants to taste different flavors individually. I can’t really say that I blame her, but I’m challenged to provide this for her for one main reason. I don’t have a plate or bowl with different compartments for different foods that is BPA free. So I have no easy way to get her food heated up in the microwave unless I use multiple bowls at each meal (which I am not cool with doing).

If you read my posts, then you know by now that when I encounter a problem like this, I go looking for the mom in the world who has already solved it. And I found her! Blog friends, allow me to introduce Liz, and her super useful product, the Baby Banquet.

The Baby Banquet is a super cool portable feeding system for infants and toddlers. It comes with a removable tray that can be safely microwaved (because it is BPA free!). Now this is without a doubt my “go-to” feeding system for Darah. Poor Tim is constantly having to wash it! I send it with her to daycare so that she can have a really nice lunch. I can also pack a snack underneath the sectioned tray. This is a great feature, because in the past I’ve just sent a container of those puffs with her, and even though I had her name on it, her caretakers couldn’t remember that it was hers and they just fed the snacks to all the kids. I’m all about sharing, but her whole container was empty after a week, and I’m not really even sure if she got any of them since bringing snacks for her is sort of a new thing. Now I can pack away just enough for her, for the day. Perfect!

This is also a terrific tool when you are traveling with babies and toddlers. Each of the sections is sized so that it can hold a baby food jar, and of course it can hold lots of other things, too. The bottom section can hold string cheese, goldfish, granola bars, juice packs, or most anything else that your little munchkin munches on!

How to Make Soda

I used to drink soda A LOT. As in, several a day. Thankfully, I weaned myself off of that bad habit, and learned to drink a lot more water (ok, and iced coffee). But I still really enjoy having a nice cold soda a few times each week. I think because I don’t drink them constantly I enjoy the flavor so much more now whenever I have one!

Given the fact that I only imbibe in a carbonated beverage a few times each week, buying 2 liters of soda are ALWAYS a waste of money in my house. We only get about halfway through the bottle before it is F-L-A-T. I don’t like to crowd my pantry with 12 packs of soda, either. They take up a lot of room, and I find that if they are there, I’m more likely to reach for one often. Finally, paying the premium prices for those 20 ounce bottles is more than I can stomach. Given our soda habits and preferences, its actually a little bit tricky to get soda!

But, my friends, now we have such a cool and fun way to have just the right amount of soda whenever the mood strikes. Have you heard of SodaStream? It’s a company that creates products for making soda at home. I already know what you are thinking: There’s NO WAY that can be worth the pain in the rear that it must be to make your own, and there’s NO WAY that whatever you make will taste decent. Country Chic Style from Shabby Apple

Do you ever stumble upon a clothing line where every single piece makes you drool? More often than not, I only like a few pieces from any given collection each season. Shabby Apple is a company that is an exception to this rule for me, though. I love practically everything on their site!

The first thing you should know about Shabby Apple is that they specialize in dresses. I’m a dress gal, myself, and love to wear them to work and even out and about around town. They have such a fantastic selection of dresses; nothing like what you can find in a department store (and I mean that in a good way).

Have you ever noticed that dresses in stores seem to go one of two different routes: either they are hopelessly frumpy and age you by 15 years because the cut is the same boring thing that has been around for forever and flatters absolutely nobody, OR they are ridiculously skimpy and will only flatter a thin teenager who doesn’t yet have hips or breasts to speak of. In either case, the dress looks bad and it goes back on the hanger, where it belongs. This is what I often experience when I go dress shopping, which is why I don’t own very many dresses, even though I love to wear them.

But friends, feast your eyes on what Shabby Apple has to offer the woman who wants to look current but who doesn’t want all her assets hanging out of her clothes! I have SO MANY dresses that I am drooling over, but here are just a few: Conservatory Garden, Carnival, Jitterbug and Champs Elysees. While they aren’t as cheap as what you can find at Old Navy or Target, I think they are absolutely gorgeous for the price!

I had the opportunity to try a Shabby Apple dress for myself in order to determine if the dresses are just as fabulous in person as they are online. They are, indeed! I was sent the Tuxedo dress, and I absolutely love its country chic style! It is beautiful chocolate brown, but it is linen, so it is perfect for the summer. But let me tell you, I’m already planning on wearing this well into the fall and breaking that antiquated “no linen after Labor Day” rule. There’s no way I’m going to follow that when I have a piece this gorgeous to wear. And of course, the brown color will be perfect for September and October (and where I live, the weather will still allow me to wear it in November, even!). The ruffles on the bodice are cute, but not “cutesy.” I feel as though I look my age (29) in this dress. I also feel as though I look quite put together! The A-line shape is very figure-flattering. I opted to wear it without a belt and it looked great, but I could see how wearing a belt, as it is pictured here, would also look really cute, especially for someone not quite as short as me.
