Family Dollar Offers an Exclusive Line of Budget Friendly Diapers and Wipes: Kidgets

January 16, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 5 Comments

Give Me Cloth Diapers or Give Me Death???

Most of my readers know by now that I have a little one in diapers (she’s 8 months old now….how did that happen?!?!). And most of you also know that I prefer to put her in cloth diapers. It’s a personal preference and I have no judgment for anyone who uses disposables.

I Use Disposables, Too

Because the truth is, I use disposable about 20% of the time, too. When 3 out of 4 members of my family caught the flu at the same time, I set the cloth diapers aside and went for disposables. When we had family visiting with us for 2 weeks in December, I also went for disposables. And while traveling for the holidays, I left the cloth at home and just went with disposables. In moments like the ones I described above, disposables certainly are more convenient.

Family Dollar Exclusive Diaper

I recently heard about a new wallet-friendly brand of disposable diapers and I decided to do a feature on them because I know many of you out there DO use disposables, whether it be part-time or full-time. And you are also looking for ways to save money (who isn’t?!).

Kidgets size 3 diapers

So I thought you might like to know that Family Dollar is the exclusive retailer of Kidgets diapers and wipes. I’ve been working my way through a 36 count pack of size 3 diapers (priced at just $6.50!) and a 72 count of baby wipes.

Kidgets Scent-Free Wipes

When I was shopping for these products, I was really happy to see that Kidgets offered a fragrance-free wipes option. I grabbed those, as I prefer to keep Layah away from as many chemicals as possible.

Here’s a picture of what the inside of the diaper looks like, for your reference:

Kidgets Diaper Inside

Our Experience

When I first saw the diapers, I thought they looked REALLY thin. Maybe too thin. Fortunately, I had some other disposables on hand from more premium brands and I compared them to each other. That’s when I realized that they really are just as thick as other disposables. Every disposable diaper looks insanely thin to a cloth diapering mama! 🙂

Kidgets Diaper from Family Dollar

I put Layah in these diapers for her active time of day to see if they could withstand lots of crawling and rolling and other types of movement. They stayed on her just fine.

I then put her in a Kidgets diaper for nap time. She’s become a tummy sleeper, so I’m always nervous about how any diaper will do. They passed!

For the ultimate test, I let her sleep overnight in a Kidgets diaper. Still, no problems!

The Kidgets wipes are also really good. While they aren’t as thick as some of the Huggies wipes I have tried, in my opinion they are significantly better than the Walgreens store brand of wipes, which I have also tried. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy these again.

Here’s some additional information on Kidgets Baby Wipes straight from Family Dollar!

Baby Wipes Solution I Love

May 18, 2010 · by Tiffany Merritt · 94 Comments

So I’ve been talking about my journey with cloth diapering over the past few months. One thing that we started doing long before using cloth diapers, though, was using cloth wipes (except for poop, and we still haven’t become brave enough to use them for poopy diapers!). Cloth wipes are such a great economical choice, as is a wipes solution. We have most definitely gotten our money’s worth out of our wipes, and then some. Since we started using cloth wipes in November, we’ve purchased maybe 2 or 3 packages of disposable wipes, which is awesome!

baby wipes solution I want to welcome back a business that I’ve featured on Stuff Parents Need, because they have a new product that is ideal for cloth wipe users. BareBebe is a store that offers a wonderful variety of products for your home and your little one, all with the quality and style kept in mind! BareBebe’s newest product is from their PureBebe line, and it is unique, economical and oh-so-useful. If you use cloth wipes, then you know that the biggest drawback to them is having to make the wipe solution every few days. It’s not enough of a hurdle to make me not want to use cloth wipes, but it is kind of annoying. But not anymore! Alison, the owner, has created these amazing Super Stars that have everything you need for your wipes…just add hot water! Now instead of making the mix myself, I just drop one star into 8 ounces of really hot water, and let it dissolve. Done! And while my own solution didn’t smell bad, this stuff smells GREAT! I received Super Stars in the rain scent. Oh, it is such a delightful smell…fresh, clean and calm. That’s exactly what my home is like (if only in my head!).

My old mix had canola oil, baby shampoo and baby lotion in it. I just kept those bottles on my kitchen counter since I used them frequently. The Super Stars are in a small canvas pouch and take up so little space. They help make my kitchen less cluttered, and anything that can help out with that disaster area is awesome. Also, I confess that I was using Johnson & Johnson products to make my own solution…that stuff is LOADED with questionable chemicals, and I was wiping it all over my baby’s most sensitive areas! PureBebe’s Super Stars are made with the following ingredients: coconut oil, palm oil, safflower oil, glycerine (kosher), aloe vera gel, purified water, sodium hydroxide, sorbitol, soy bean protein, essential oils (if chosen), fragrance oils (if chosen). This is all stuff I can recognize and pronounce.

In addition to using this solution for baby wipes, you can also use it as a natural hand sanitizer. Just pour it into a spray bottle and you are good to go! Since there are no dyes or harsh chemicals in the stars, there’s no need to worry if your little one puts her hands in her mouth right after you wipe them down.

I was also sent two precious cloth wipes, one with a transportation theme, and the other with love birds in trees. I really love Alison’s cloth wipes because they are very sturdy. They are made with bamboo velour and cotton flannel, so they are super soft, but also ready to tackle those bigger messes. Having these wipes is giving me the courage to use cloth wipes full-time, even for the you-know-what diaper changes, because I know they will actually work! She offers these wipes in a set of 4 for $8.50, and she has many beautiful prints from which to choose.

Alison gets her inspiration for the products she offers from her family. She is mom to 3 girls, all under 5! BareBebe provides a way for her to share the solutions she has created for her own family over the past few years. And we all know that moms come up with the BEST ideas! Check out her wool dryer balls, pail freshener, and adorable pacifier clips! There are so many great things to choose at BareBebe, but let me strongly encourage you to go ahead and take the plunge if you are thinking about trying out cloth wipes. These PureBebe Super Stars and cloth wipes are stellar, in my opinion, and the prices are more than fair.

Win It!: Alison wants you to experience how great going cloth really is for yourself! She is giving away a package of 33 PureBebe Super Stars wipes solution AND a set of 4 wipes (winner’s choice)! Trust me, you are going to love them! The The contest will run until Friday, May 28th at 7:59pm CST when a winner will be selected using Random.org. The winner will be emailed and will have 48 hours to respond before the prize is forfeited and a new winner is selected. Open to residents of the United States.

Natural Products for Baby, Including Cloth Wipes Solution

November 2, 2009 · by Tiffany Merritt · 106 Comments

I’ve noticed lately that my little one has a strong affinity for chewing on her fists. I think we are in the very early stages of teething. Oh joy. Because her hands are always in her mouth, they are starting to get quite sticky. This made me wish that I had some sort of all natural product for baby that I could quickly and easily wipe her down with. I went to Etsy to search for something, and I found the solution at BareBebe.

BareBebe is a new company to Etsy, having been in business for about 7 weeks now. The inspiration behind the business came about 4 years ago, though, when Alison (the owner) started her family. She says, “I really became focused on not only what we put into our mouths, but what kinds of things we put on our skin.” When she decided to fully commit to cloth diapering with her third child, she had a really tough time finding wipes that weren’t really cheap and detergent that fully disclosed its ingredients. With cloth diapering, this is particularly important, as some ingredients can ruin or at least diminish the effectiveness of cloth diapers. So she did was any creative person would do; she started making these products for herself! Soon after, a store was born featuring 3 signature items: PureBebe detergent, CleanBebe wipes and FreshBebe wipes spray. There are other great items in the store as well. Alison says, ” I realized I had many things in my home, made by me, that would be great additions to my store (ie. BabyBreathe Eucalyptus balm, MightyToSave dryer balls, and BareBebe milk bath) All these items are natural replacements for the most commonly used items in my house.”

Alison was kind enough to send me the BareBebe Sample Pack, so that I could try out her products for myself. The sample pack contains the following:

~2oz. FreshBebe wipes spray
~Enough DryBebe (powder) for several diaper changes
~One gender neutral CleanBebe cloth wipe
~Enough PureBebe laundry detergent for 3 loads of laundry (6 loads for HE)
(all of this is only $3.50, by the way!)

natural products baby I was excited to try every product, but I was especially eager to try out the FreshBebe wipes spray. It was created as a wipes spray, especially for sensitive skin, but its uses go way beyond that! I’ve found it to be an excellent item to have on hand to quickly wipe down Darah’s hands throughout the day, and I have absolutely no worries if she starts chewing on her fists 3 seconds after I used the spray on her, because it is a natural product.Alison says, “FreshBebe contains a naturally derived mild soap and tea tree oil. Both of these have antibacterial qualities and guarantee your little one will be clean.” FreshBebe comes in a variety of scents. I chose tangerine vanilla, and it smells fabulous but light. I am really happy to have found a great solution to my problem with little miss sticky fingers! A 4 oz spray bottle is a very reasonable $4.50. She also sells 8 oz refill bottles! natural products baby from BareBebe

DryBebe was another great product in the sample pack. It is a talc and cornstarch free powder option for little tushies. Alison has blended some essential oils of lavender, vanilla and lemongrass to create a scent similar to lemon poppyseed muffins! The powder is tan, which surprised me at first. As Alison points out on her site, though, “it’s all natural, and you can’t find many things in nature that are pure white.” Good point! I got about 8 uses out of my sample pack of DryBebe. It helped to keep Darah nice and dry, and it smelled great, too. An 8 oz bottle is $7.75, and it will last a long while.

PureBebe is a laundry detergent th natural products baby at is enzyme, dye, perfume, soap brightener and softener free. It turns out that all of these elements can possibly irritate the skin of a baby. It comes scent free, but essential oils can be added to give it a very light fragrance. I requested lavender essential oil to be added to my sample. The product smelled great. I’m pleased to say that Darah’s clothes have done well with this detergent! PureBebe is $6.50 for 38 loads (72 loads in a HE washer).

The Clean Bebe wipe I received was soft, but also very sturdy. It is two-ply, which means it can really handle some business. One side is made of soft cotton jersey and the other side is made of cotton flannel, which makes it a bit more helpful for, well, the big messes! The cloth held up beautifully after being put through the washer and dryer, and is ready for its next mess! Best of all, these come in a variety of really cute patterns! A package of 4 of these costs $4.00, just about the same price as a package of disposable wipes. You can see how these will pay for themselves rather quickly!

A Great Bulk Purchase: Kirkland Baby Wipes

October 14, 2009 · by Tiffany Merritt · 3 Comments

bulk wipes from Costco (Kirkland brand)

(Image from Costco.com)

Tim and I are members of a wholesale club, Costco. Since we are only a family of 3, sometimes we have a hard time finding things to purchase at Costco, especially when it comes to food purchases. We often can’t eat the food fast enough before it spoils! But we have found a great deal that we will purchase again when it comes to Kirkland baby wipes at Costco. And little Darah has no fear about us buying 900 wipes at a time. Trust me, she’ll use them!

If you are a Costco member, you can get 900 Kirkland wipes for $27.99. That’s 3.1 cents/wipe. If you aren’t a member of Costco, you can still purchase Kirkland Baby Wipes at Amazon, and right now, they are the same price as at Costco!

I like to try to get wipes for around 2 cents/wipe, but that’s very difficult to do without coupons, and sometimes I just don’t have coupons or the mental energy to scope out deals. That’s when paying just a wee bit more is fine with me. They are still cheap baby wipes!

I’ve found the baby wipes by Kirkland to be a little bit thinner than Huggies wipes (which are my personal favorites), but they are still highly effective, and I don’t have to use any more wipes than normal to get the job done. They have a light, pleasant scent, and best of all, they are environmentally friendly by being made from renewable resources, being 100% biodegradable. Woo hoo!

I really liked purchasing so many wipes at once, because it means that I don’t have to even think about wipes for a few months. That makes my job as a parent just that much easier!

Stay tuned for a crazy cool experiment at our house: we’re going to give reusable wipes a try!

Do you have a favorite wipe, or a price point that you look for when purchasing baby wipes?
