Fish Recipes: Get Your Omega-3’s (31 Days of Unforgettable Recipes)

October 5, 2013 · by Tiffany Merritt · 2 Comments

Am I the only one totally confused by whether or not fish is something to avoid eating, on account of all the pollution in our water, or if it is something that I definitely SHOULD be eating, on account of the Omega-3 oils found in fish that have been shown to be super awesome for the heart and brain?

Ultimately, I’ve reached this conclusion: I should be taking Omega-3 supplements at least a few times each week, and I should aim to prepare a dish with fish in it at least once a week. Here’s my own list of my top 10 “go-to” fish recipes. We enjoy these dishes, and I hope you will, too!

CHIAVIE: A Drink For Warrior Women

June 7, 2012 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

When I was in early labor with Layah (all 3 times, because yeah, I went into labor 3 different times before she was actually born!), I stayed at home for the early part (only went to the hospital the final time, actually). There were many reasons why I wanted to do early labor at home, including the fact that I wanted to be able to eat and drink.

That probably sounds like a silly reason for staying at the house, but being able to stay hydrated and get the energy my body really NEEDS during labor is important. And once you go to the hospital, NO MORE FOOD. And for most hospitals, only ice chips are allowed! Given the fact that my labor with Darah was 19 hours long, I wasn’t interested in being starving in addition to being exhausted from labor.

And I had a carefully selected drink in my refrigerator to help give me a major energy boost. This drink is not specifically designed for women in labor, by any means, but it’s definitely useful for when you are about to do the hardest work of your life! It’s called CHIA\VIE, and it is an all natural blend of chia seeds and fruit. Chia seeds are relatively new to me, but since discovering them, I’ve learned that they are one of the greatest superfoods in the entire world. The CHIA\VIE bottles state that a handful of chia seeds used to sustain Aztec warriors for an entire day. Woah!

Each drink has 2 servings of fruit and no sugar added. It also doesn’t require refrigeration. This was great, as it enabled me to take the drink with me to the hospital (why yes, I did sneak in a drink for myself!). I found the taste to be quite pleasant, and I’m certain that this drink helped me have the energy I needed to sustain the 24 hour labor. Yeah, you read that right…24 hours! So much for the idea that your second delivery will be much quicker than your first!

Each drink also has 2000 mg of Omega 3, as well as 600 mg of Omega 6 and 88 mg of Omega 9. If you are currently breastfeeding, know that the boost of Omega-3s in your system is a wonderful thing for you and your baby, as it promotes brain and heart health for both of you! Even if you aren’t currently pregnant or breastfeeding, if you are a mother than you are a warrior woman in your day-to-day life, of that I am certain! I love the idea of turning to the food source that warriors used to help sustain you!

Go to the CHIA\VIE website to find your nearest retailer!

Tropical Traditions Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

August 15, 2011 · by Tiffany Merritt ·

Did you know that the recommended serving amount of fruits and veggies is 5-9 per day? This is not crazy hard for me to do in the summer when the markets are bursting with amazing fresh produce. But 9 months out of the year, I just don’t reach this goal…some days not even remotely close.

I’m not the only one with this problem. One great solution, at least in theory, is a drink mix that contain a high level of greens. They usually come in a powder form and you mix them in with water and then drink them as fast as you possibly can. They taste disgusting and they look like pond water. Drinking one of these every morning takes something beyond dedication; it takes an iron stomach!

Because I have been so impressed with everything I’ve tried so far from Tropical Traditions, I thought it was time to put this company to the ultimate test. I noticed that they have an Antioxident Omega 3 Greens powder, and I decided to try it. I mean, it’s really just impossible for a product like this to taste good.

Here are my thoughts after drinking a few of these concoctions. TT’s version also does look like pond water, so I can’t say that it looks appetizing. BUT…the taste is not bad. I’m not going to say it tastes great, because it doesn’t. But it doesn’t taste bad. You can drink the whole thing without gagging, and that’s more than I can say for any other greens drink I’ve ever tried. We got the berry flavor, and I think that tinge of sweetness goes a long way for this drink. I can’t tell you that I would happily drink this every morning of my life, but I would gladly take it a few times each week on those days when I know I didn’t get the amount of fruits and vegetables that my body needs for fuel.

If you are not very familiar with the concept of a product like this, let me tell you why the Tropical Traditions Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens formula is such a super drink. Drinking one glass of this each day is designed to help you with all of the following:

  • Providing ALA Omega 3 fatty acid
  • Improving Immune Function
  • Providing fiber for better digestion
  • providing high antioxidant benefits
  • alkalizing body and balancing pH
  • excellent source of probiotics

From the website, “Antioxidant Natural Greens supplies a rich blend of totally natural vitamins, minerals, plant enzymes, antioxidants, phytonutrients and symbiotic intestinal flora for optimal energy metabolism, digestion, detoxification, and immune enhancement.” (Please note that these statements have not been verified by the FDA).

This really is an incredible product that provides an amazing amount of health benefits. And it tastes better than anything similar to it on the market (at least that I’ve tried). I give it two thumbs up. Tropical Traditions surprises me, once again!
