Get $30,000 and Change Lives

I’m extremely excited to have the chance to tell you about an amazing opportunity that is close to my heart. Until just a few weeks ago, my career field was education. I worked with amazing college students who gave 10 hours each week to the community as part of their scholarship for college. Many of my students worked in Memphis public schools, some of the worst out there. The schools we partnered with almost all made failing scores year after year. The need was so tremendous, especially for passionate teachers who really cared and who dared to set the bar high for their students. It was a joy to watch some of my students go on to become teachers in high need schools.

Perhaps you are thinking about becoming a teacher and making a difference? Maybe you are still in college and weighing your options, or maybe you are looking for a career change. If you have or are working towards a degree in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering or math) and you want to be a teacher, The Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship www.wwteachingfellowship.org might be the right opportunity for you! If provides you with a $30,000 stipend to complete an intensive master’s degree program at one of fourteen universities across the nation. It also provides intensive support and mentoring in the classroom while you teach in high need areas for at least three years.

To apply for this round, you need to have an undergraduate degree by June 2011, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have a demonstrated commitment to the program and its goals.

The Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship seeks to recruit, prepare and retain effective teachers for the students and schools who need them most. Are you one of the teachers they are looking for? If not, do you know someone who would make an amazing teacher? Please tell them about this opportunity!

Do you have a favorite memory of an inspirational teacher? I have had the good fortune to have had several teachers K-12 who believed in me and encouraged me to reach higher and higher. Not everyone is so lucky. I commend The Woodrow Wilson Fellowship program for working to put role models in every school.
