Razor Burn on Legs? How to Take Care of It and Move On with Your Busy Day!

June 11, 2016 · by Tiffany Merritt · Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/P&G. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Most moms out there are multitasking experts. You probably know how to make dinner while overseeing homework, and you probably know how to clean house while catching up with a friend over the phone, and you also probably know how to answer emails while enjoying a favorite television show.

Shaving during shower time is just one more way that busy mamas multitask (when we actually get enough time to take a shower, that is!). I confess that I sometimes skip over the shaving piece altogether so that I can avoid having to deal with possible razor burn. But now that it’s summer, I can’t put off shaving for as long as I can in the winter, so I found a simple and natural razor burn relief cream I could put together to use right after the shower.

home remedies for razor burn

Before I get into the recipe details, I should mention that the very best way to prevent razor burn in the first place is to shave with an excellent razor. I love the Venus & Olay razor (pro tip: find it for the best price at ) because it has a built-in moisturizer that works as you shave, cutting out the need for shave cream, and therefore saving me a bit of time. It has 5 blades and those Olay Moisture Bars help lock in moisture. Good stuff!

But to take your razor burn protection to the next level, try out my simple DIY recipe for after you shave.

You need a few simple ingredients and about 15 minutes to whip up a batch of “razor burn banishing” lotion. You will need the following:

  • 1/4 cup body oil of your choice (I recommend almond, grapeseed or organic olive oil)
  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 1 Tbsp beeswax
  • 10 drops Tea Tree essential oil
  • 5 drops Lavender essential oil

Put your body oil, shea butter and beeswax in a glass container, and put that glass container in a pan (to simulate a double boiler…if you actually have a double boiler, even better!) and bring to a simmer, stirring every minute or so. The beeswax will be the last element to melt, and I find that it takes close to 10 minutes for that to happen. Stir more often as you get closer to the 10 minute mark. In the end, your mixture should look like the picture on the right.

Allow this mixture to cool outside of the pan for about 5 minutes, and then add your drops of essential oil. Tea Tree oil is a great choice because it is very healing to irritated skin, and lavender is a great soothing oil. I also think the lavender addition helps the mixture smell really good!

After I added the essential oils, I used a hand mixer to blend everything together well, and then I let it cool. Your end result will look something like this:
