Honest Company Scrubber Sponge Review: An Honest Assessment

April 24, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 2 Comments

Time for another installment of Honest Company reviews! Today I’m taking a look at one of the least expensive items on the entire website: the Honest Scrubber Sponge ($3.95).

Reasons to Buy It

If you are looking to replace as many things in your home as possible with eco-friendly options, your kitchen sponge may not be an item you thought to replace. The one sold by The Honest Company is made with plant material, including a more coarse side made with walnut shells (clever, no?!). It works just like a typical two-sided sponge. I have used it on dishes, stainless steel pots and pans, and on my granite counter tops, all with zero problems.

Reasons Not to Buy It

Honestly? It’s jut not a very fun product, you guys. I mean, it’s a 2 pack of sponges. It does the job just fine; no better or worse than other eco-friendly sponges I have tried in the past. For me, though, as someone trying to maximize the awesome that will be headed my way in my monthly bundles, getting the scrubber sponge is just boring since it is something you can find of equal quality at your nearest grocery or big box store. I prefer to use my +3 spots for lots of other stuff that doesn’t have an equal within easy reach. Just my two cents!

If You Are Going to Buy It, Do It This Way

DO NOT make this one of your 5 allowed items in your essentials bundle! The per item cost for your bundle is $7.20, so to give one of those spots to the scrubber sponge means you will pay more than double the retail price for it! Sneaky, but that’s just the way it works!

Instead, add it to your essentials bundle as one of your 3 extra items that you are allowed to purchase for a 25% discount. That brings the price for the 2-pack down to $2.96. Much better, and a truly reasonable price for a set of eco-friendly sponges.

Bundles? What Are You Talking About???

If you are new to The Honest Company and the value they offer to subscribers who choose to order from them regularly, then you need to start your relationship off with them by getting LOTS of freebies! I tell you just exactly how to do that here! Odds are good that you will love what you try and want to get more products. That’s where I come in to help you know what’s worth getting, what you should pass on, and how to build your bundles for maximum savings.  Here’s the complete list of products I have reviewed so far. You’re welcome! 😉

Honest Dishwasher Pods Review: An Honest Assessment

April 20, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 1 Comment

Welcome to another Honest Assessment post! I’ve been getting great feedback from folks that these posts are really helping them to know what to buy, what to avoid, and exactly how to build their bundles when shopping with The Honest Company. Since helping people maximize in some way (time, money, whatever!) I’m just going to keep trucking along!

And if you are feeling lost and have no idea what The Honest Company is or why you should care (or that you can get a bunch of stuff FREE!) then you need to start here, friend!

Honest Dishwasher Pods

honest dishwasher pods

Based on my terrible experience with the Honest Auto Dishwasher Gel, I really didn’t expect to like the Honest Dishwasher Pods. In fact, I have heard from a few different people that the dishwasher pods left a residue on their dishes.

Since I’m trying really hard to offer the most comprehensive review of Honest.com products as possible (here’s where you can find my complete list of Honest Company reviews), I decided to order a bag, though I was almost sure they wouldn’t work.

Well, joke’s on me, friends. I LOVE them! Now I will tell you that they don’t work as well as Cascade Platinum, but for an eco-friendly dish detergent, they work pretty much the best I’ve yet to see. I’ve purchased 2 more packs since getting my original bag; that should give you some insight into my feels about the product! I didn’t have any residue, and I threw out (donated) my leftover Honest Dish Gel after trying these. I think the bottom line is this: I can only speak for how my dishwasher works in my city with my water. No doubt people in different places and with different machines will have different experiences. But if you want my advice, try the dishwasher pods before you try the auto gel!

How to Purchase Honest Dishwasher Pods

The retail price for this product is $10.95. Since every product in an essentials bundle is $7.20, this is a GREAT item to add to your bundle! Need a bundle refresher? The Honest Company offers a bundle of select products of your choice (5 items) for a set price of $35.95. It is a subscription service (boo!) BUT they are SUPER flexible, and will let you put a hold on your bundle, switch the date around, wait for 3 months if you want. Basically, it is the most flexible subscription service I have ever seen. And of course, you can cancel anytime. And you can switch out the products you want from bundle to bundle. You just want to make sure that the products you buy retail for at least $7.20 or else you are actually not saving money at all, but are over-paying!

Bundles also come with the ability to add 3 more items at  25% discount. You could add dishwasher pods as a +3 item, and then you would pay $8.21 for that item. That’s better than retail, but I prefer to save those 3 extra spots for items that were already less than $7.20 so that I can get them for a really good deal (bar soap, for example).

So who else out there has tried and loved the dishwasher pods? Anyone dislike them? I personally know a few people in both camps!

Honest Company Bar Soap Review: An Honest Assessment

April 14, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 9 Comments

Referral links included. I only promote what I love, as always!

I’ve really been looking forward to telling you about Honest Bar Soap. It is one of my very favorite products in their line, but you need to be VERY CAREFUL with how you purchase it! I’ll explain in a minute.

First, if you are new to The Honest Company, you need to hook yourself up with some free samples before placing an order. I’ve got the scoop on how to get Honest.com products free. Go ahead and check that out; I’ll wait here!

Ok, on to the soap review!

honest bar soap 1

Honest bar soap is one of my favorites because it is PERFECT for gifts. The packaging is really pretty, which makes it a really nice element in a hostess, housewarming, or any other type of gift. Who doesn’t like to get fancy soap? The dark splotch you see on my package is not part of the aesthetic…just a perk of getting to live in my house with my kids! Lucky soap bar! 😉

It comes in three scents: juniper sage, lavender, and tangerine vanilla. I’ve tried them all and would recommend them all, but my very favorite is tangerine vanilla. It is such a unique scent to find in a soap, and it is really invigorating for morning showers.

I’ve found the cleaning power of the soap to be right on par with other nice bar soaps. No complaints!

How To Buy (and How NOT To Buy) Honest Bar Soap

honest bar soap 2

Ok, so you know I’m a fan, overall, of the Honest.com essentials bundles. You can save money by committing to purchasing 5 items at once, and I love how they are flexible about when you can ship things out (I’ve moved orders WAY up before, and I’ve also put orders on hold for a few months before…they have NO problem with that!). Anyway, one of the bad things about the essentials bundle is that if you aren’t paying attention, you could actually overpay for items. So much for saving money! Honest bar soap is one of those items. It retails for $4.95. The per item price of anything in your bundle is going to be $7.20, so if an item retails for less than $7.20, it shouldn’t go in your bundle.

With that said, you are allowed to add up to 3 extra items to you bundle purchase, and those extra 3 items are offered at 25% off. This is how you want to buy your soap. Make it a +3 item, and then you will get it for $3.71! Additionally, you can just place a non-bundle order and pay $4.95.

What do you think of Honest Bar Soap? Are you a fan like me?

Honest Company Stain Remover Review: An Honest Assessment

March 26, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 3 Comments

Referral links included. All thoughts are my own, as always.

I’ve got a really high quality product to showcase today from The Honest Company (don’t miss all my Honest Company reviews if you want the dish on what to buy and what to avoid!).

honest-company-stain-remover

This is the Honest Stain Remover. So you use this spray on your stained clothing to help get those messes that you fear detergent alone isn’t going to tackle. To use the product, simply spray the area that needs treating, and let it sit for a minimum of 5 minutes before throwing it in the wash.

The bottle is very large (26 ounces) and very reasonably priced at just $5.95. I have had very good results with the product, though I haven’t yet used it on the stains that scare me the very most. But I’m working my way up to them, as this spray has worked on everything I’ve tried so far!

eco-friendly stain remover from the honest company

How to Get the Best Price

Ok, so this product retails for $5.95. It is yet another product that doesn’t really make sense to put in the essentials bundle, since the per item price in the bundle works out to be $7.20. But this is a GREAT choice for the extra 3 items you are allowed to tack on to your bundle, as those 3 items are offered at 25% off. So by making this one of your +3 items, you will get it for $4.46! You can also just order it on its own without signing up for the bundle subscription service and pay $5.95, which is a very reasonable price for such a large product that works so well.

Honest Company Organic Dish Towels Review: An Honest Assessment

March 18, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 1 Comment

Referral links included. All thoughts and opinions are my own, as always.

I’m really having a lot of fun showcasing all of the Honest.com products that I’m trying out. If you’d like to my list of detailed Honest Company reviews that I’ve done, definitely check those out before deciding what to order from them.

Today I’d like to show you a product that might surprise you to find in the Honest Company lineup: organic dish towels. These are, in my experience, work horses in the kitchen, yet they aren’t any sort of official cleaning product.

honest company organic dish towels

These come in a pack of 2 for $7.95. I think that’s comparable to a price you might find in a store for traditional dish towels. I actually think the price is on the low end for comparable dish towels made with organic cotton, though!

The design is simple, but quite lovely. I’ve been using my 2 dish towels frequently, and find them to perform just as well as other similarly-designed dish towels. They absorb well, and they are sturdy enough to take on scrubbing jobs, too.

I actually purchased a second set after trying out these towels for myself, as I think they make a lovely and practical hostess gift. I would be delighted to receive something like this from guests, and I think the price point is very reasonable for a gift like that, too.

How to Get a Good Deal (And a GREAT Deal) on Honest Company Dish Towels

Ok, so since these dish towels are priced at $7.95 on the website (remember, you get 2), that makes them a good item to include in your essentials bundle. Essentials bundle items cost you $7.20 each, so since this item’s starting price is higher than $7.20, you will save money on it if you purchase it in a bundle. With that said, it is also a great item for you to add on to the bundle additions. When you purchase a bundle, you get to add up to 3 extra items to your bundle order, and each of those 3 items are offered at a 25% discount. So if you purchase these as an add-on, they will cost just $5.96!

Is This Your First Order?

If you are new to Honest.com products, you need to get yourself all of the freebies available before placing an order. I’ve got a post that tells you how to get a bunch of stuff totally free from Honest.com as a welcome gift! 🙂

Sound-Off

Honest Company Bathroom Cleaner Review: An Honest Assessment

March 15, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 2 Comments

Referral links included. All thoughts are my own, as always.

I’ve been really looking forward to telling you about this product, friends. It is the fourth product from The Honest Company that I’ve reviewed (missed the others? Check out all my reviews for almost every Honest product!).

honest bathroom cleaner

So today I want to talk about the Honest Bathroom Cleaner. I LOVE it!!! And here’s the sad thing: we had it for about a month before I knew I liked it at all. That’s because my husband typically cleans the bathroom. But a few weeks ago I was tidying up in there, and noticed that the sinks needed to be wiped down. I reached for this product, spritzed it a few times, and totally fell in love (to the extent that one can fall in love with a bathroom cleaner, that is).

The scent is what got me at first. It is eucalyptus and mint, and while those are both pretty strong scents, the result here is mild, yet fabulous. It smells so fresh and clean! It actually made me want to find more things to clean with it (something I am guilty of NEVER EVER EVER EVER).

I also thought it did a great job of getting everything clean. I wouldn’t recommend this product for cleaning something that has been neglected for 2 months, but for weekly cleaning jobs or quick clean ups here and there, it is absolutely perfect. We use it in the tub, on the shower walls, on our bathroom counters, and in our sinks.

How to Buy It (and How NOT to Buy It):

This is another product that you should NOT list as one of your 5 items in the essentials bundle. Instead it should be one of the 3 add-ons you are allowed to purchase for an additional 25% off. For the bundle, you get 5 items for $36, which equals $7.20 per items. But to purchase this item alone is just $5.95. So either purchase it without purchasing a bundle at all, or make it a bundle add-on. Bundle add-ons are 25% off, which means you can buy this for $4.46 that way. And always keep in mind, too, that you get free shipping if you purchase $50 or more when you shop. Pay attention to your total, because if you are getting close to $50, you might as well buy a little more to save that $5.95 shipping cost.

Honest Company Conditioning Mist Review: An Honest Assessment

February 26, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 3 Comments

This is the third item from The Honest Company that I’ve reviewed recently. Please do take a moment to check out my other Honest Company reviews if you are new to The Honest Company and want to learn more about which products to buy and which ones to avoid. I also clue you in on how to get a bunch of stuff free if you are a new customer!

honest-company-conditioning-mist

Simply put, we LOVE Honest Conditioning Mist. I’ve purchased 3 at this point, having given away 2 as gifts. If you’ve got a little one in your house with enough hair to run a brush through, then this product will serve you well.

The scent is very light and very mild, and it works like a detangler on knots. My daughter feels spoiled every time we use it on her, because she knows that conditioner softens the hair, so getting to use this is like getting to have conditioner twice :-).

This is another great add-on product for your bundle, as if you put it in your bundle, you’ll actually pay more for it than the retail price, and if you tack it on as an extra, you’ll get it at  a 25% discount.

Have you tried the Honest Conditioning Mist, yet? Are you a fan like we are?

Honest Company Hand Soap Review: An Honest Assessment

February 20, 2014 · by Tiffany Merritt · 1 Comment

If you are new to the blog, I have just started sharing my opinions about the Honest.com (or The Honest Company) products I have tried so far. I earn referral credit with the company if you sign up to try them out, just as any other member would. I haven’t been asked to post these reviews, but I wanted to because I’ve had trouble finding reviews of the individual products online when I have looked.

Here’s a list of Honest Company reviews I have created. And if you are new to The Honest Company, here’s the post you should read first about how to get all 3 of their trials for free.

Honest.com Hand Soap

honest company hand soap in lemongrass

There are 3 scents available of Honest Hand Soap. At this point, I have tried Lemongrass and Mandarin. And I have absolutely loved both.

I keep the Lemongrass in our primary bathroom. My entire family uses it, including my 21-month-old, and I feel absolutely no concerns about that, as The Honest Company hand soap contains no harsh chemicals whatsoever. It produces a good lather, without being overly sudsy, and the smell is fantastic (very clean and green), but doesn’t linger long after you have finished washing your hands, which I like.

honest company hand soap in mandarin

I keep the Mandarin Hand Soap in our kitchen, which feels like the right spot for this fruity and fresh scent.

The Honest Company Hand Soaps retail for $4.95 each, which I think is a good price. A word of caution: I wouldn’t add them to your $35.95/month bundle, but would instead order them as add-ons, which you can get for a 25% discount. Since they are only $4.95 each, to add them to your bundle actually makes them cost more than they would if ordered on their own! A bundle consists of 5 items, which means that each item will cost you just over $7. Make sense?

I highly recommend these soaps, and am now in the habit of adding one on to my bundles each month for a great price! They also would make for very nice hostess gifts because they are both practical and cute!
